Boggs and current Sox first baseman share perspectives

Slides nickle-enhanced tonearm over to beat copy of Hasil Adkins’...“The Greek God of Chicken Walks”.

Wade Boggs called it. “One of the biggest keys of having a long hitting streak is probably the ability to not walk,” said Boggs by phone from his Tampa-area home, before Kevin Youkilis ended his hitting streak Saturday at 23 games, a career high, tying him for ninth-best in Red Sox history and second-best in baseball this season.

“That’s going to be the killer of the streak,” said Boggs, who had three streaks of 20 games or more in his Red Sox career. “He’ll probably go 0-for-2 with two walks.”

...With the Sox leading by four runs in the eighth inning and the count 3-1, Youkilis was asked if he was tempted to swing, hoping to extend his streak.

“You don’t know who I am then if you’re asking that question,” said Youkilis, who was called the Greek God of Walks by Oakland general manager Billy Beane in “Moneyball”. “I don’t swing at balls. I wouldn’t have swung at that, no way.”

Awesome. Youkilis should talk to Ichiro about streaks.

I wish that he would talk to Wily Mo Pena and Coco Crisp.

Youks isn't trapped in AAA, so, no.

I wonder if he can drink like Boggs?

Scott, I assume you mean former Ken Phelps all-star? In '05 he certainly was a KPAS.

I think he's just an all-star.

Not according to the All-Star Ballot

Yeah, not like a manager can name the bench or anything, and if you think Youkilis won't make his way onto the Last Man ballot, you're high.

Of course I think he is an All-Star. He is practically carrying my fantasy team, and I am a big fan.

I just think it is stupid that the All-Star Ballot doesn't list him.

I was a big fan of Youks grabbing the walk in the 8th inning yesterday. It was a pitch he could have swung at. It was only a little off the plate on the outside corner. What was really sweet however, was Lowell then driving him in from first of the monster.
