Breaking down the 2021 All-Star Ballot

Nolan Arenado has started at third base for the NL in each of the past three All-Star Games, all in a Rockies uniform. Now playing for the Cardinals, Arenado is seeking a fourth career start as the game returns to Coors Field for the first time since 1998. Evan Longoria is among those trying to unseat Arenado, and should Longoria—the AL starter in 2010—be elected, he would join an exclusive list of players to earn starting selections in both leagues. Kris Bryant—whose sole All-Star start came in 2016—should also garner some votes.

At second base, 10 different players have started for the NL over the past 10 All-Star Games, and thanks to some positional and league switches, this year is guaranteed to produce an 11th. No second baseman on the ballot has started an All-Star Game, giving players such as Adam Frazier, Jake Cronenworth, Ryan McMahon and Jazz Chisolm Jr. a shot at their first such honor.

Nicky Lopez is listed as the Royals DH. Love it.

19 AL candidates were hitting under 200 whenever Google put this page together; the NL "just" 3.

Seems they weren't nominated at season's start as Willy Adames is the Brewers' candidate at SS.

Let's see ... the AL sub-200 AS team

1B Sano
2B Lowe
3B Dozier
SS Gimenez
C Grandal (there are a lot of choices)
OF Frazier, Gardner, Soler
DH Miggy (sigh)

"Good" news for Mets fan, Jarred Kelenic is hitting 111/200/222 so far.

If only the Angels kept Pujols a little longer....the AL under 200 team would have some big names

Miguel Cabrera not a big enough name for you?

EDIT: the team adds up to -2.6 WAR which isn't too bad given the BA. Dozier and Soler add up to -2.6 WAR on their own.

I wouldn't have thought Maldonado would have so much competition. He did hit a grand slam yesterday, so that must have moved him down the pecking order.

Let's not mix Yasmani G in with other sub .200 hitters, since he would be third in the AL in OBP if he had enough PA to qualify. An OPS of 136 for a catcher? Put him on the AS team!!
