Seriously? Someone went to the trouble of submitting this "article?" The quoted section below is the entire piece (plus a couple of tweets).

SEEEEE YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! That was fast! What a day! This offseason just gets better and better.

If the Red Sox have an ounce of integrity they will fire Alex Cora right this second.

P.S. ####### typos

That's why I can't stand Barstool Sports -- they're so damned equivocal...
   3. JJ1986 Posted: January 13, 2020 at 04:51 PM (#5915316)
Without clicking, I'm going to assume that Barstool now employs Taubman who is happy about the fate of the boss who let him go.

Barstool gonna Barstool. I don't understand why this needed to be submitted or approved.

I assume the person who submitted it is also the person who wrote it.

Me too...although using the word "wrote it" is a stretch of the definition of wrote.

How about "extruded it"?

More importantly should it be the "cheating scumbags Houston Astros"? C'mon grammar/dictionary mavens. I understand it's awkward phrasing but that's true regardless. More standard and readable would be "those cheating scumbags the Houston Astros ..." One could argue for Astros as the name of the corporation (and "scumbag" as an adjective) but, although the SC likes to think of corporations as persons, dictionaries are not so kind and 'scumbag' is a personal characteristic not a group one.

But ... why the glee? If in fact the Astros organization consists entirely of scumbags then these two scumbags will surely just be replaced by other scumbags and all of the Astros' actions will continue to be covered in scum. The firing only achieves anything if (a) Lunhow and Hinch were the key scumbags and (b) they are replaced by non-scumbags or at least ineffective scumbags (but Jeter already has a job :-).

Or do you think maybe the tweeter didn't think this through?

(No, to my knowledge/memory, Jeter hasn't done anything slimy enough to deserve being called a "scumbag." But I am sure he's happy to be the butt of a joke because humor is the key to a happy life.)

Legally and grammatically, adding "P.S. ####### typos" at the end excuses everything. It worked on my dissertation.

Also, it's no use, Mr. Davis. It's scumbags all the way down.

I'd go "cheating Houston Astros scumbags", though the repeated S sounds a little funny, if you dropped the "cheating", would you rather "scumbag Houston Astros" or "Houston Astros scumbags"?*

*Without adding additional words to the phrasings ...

“Cheating Houston Astros scumbags” is redundant twice over.

Also, Barstool is the ####### worst.

no such thing as bad content, I guess, if we're still engaging with it and commenting

Looks like baseball will have to award the 2017 and 2018 AL pennants to the ferocious gentlemen formerly known as The Evil Empire.

(Hey, if the NCAA can do it, why can't MLB?)

are you vexed by Vox news?

Barstool Sports, the high-profile, controversial, and fast-growing sports media company, may soon have a new owner: A low-profile casino operator.

Sources say The Chernin Group, which currently owns Barstool, is in advanced talks to sell a majority stake in the company to Penn National Gaming, a publicly traded, regional gambling company that operates 41 properties in 19 states.

Barstool was last valued at more than $100 million, but a potential purchase price could be much higher, and might create the biggest media-gambling tie-up in the US since the Supreme Court legalized sports betting in 2018.

There have got to be cheaper ways to get an army of Twitter followers for when you need to harrass a reporter for being a woman.

Barstool ARE scumbags- so, they should be experts

I think I would just go with either my first suggestion or (if we must stick with scum) then "the cheating, scummy Houston Astros". Which raises other challenging (for me at least) etymological quandaries. Scumbag suggests a container of scum whereas, in some contexts at least, we might want to designate an entity as a scum-producer. What word would we want there? In this context, it is probably easier to think of the Astros organization as a container of scum although I suspect they played some role in producing Taubman or at least creating an environment in which any existing scumbag tendencies he had were allowed to grow to previously unachieved (for him) depths. Barstool however might be considered a producer of scum ... admittedly where the distinctions are among scum, slime and sleaze I'm not sure. Alas, I have to admit that "scummy" might possibly be more appropriate if covered in scum where said scum was neither produced by the entity nor does the entity contain scum.

scumbag (n.)

"condom," by 1939, slang, from scum + bag (n.). Earlier (by 1817) it was used in sugar refining as the name of a frame covered in coarse cloth used in straining. Meaning "despicable person" is attested by 1971.
