Luke Voit was designated for assignment on Monday by the Milwaukee Brewers, who owe the former home run champion a little more than $1.3 million for the remainder his of contract.
The first baseman hit .221 with a .284 on-base percentage, .265 slugging percentage, zero homers and four RBIs in 22 games. He had just three extra-base hits, all doubles, in 74 plate appearances.
Voit, 32, hadn’t played for the Brewers since May 13. He went on the injured list two days later with a neck issue and had been hitting .259 with a .444 on-base percentage, one homer and eight RBIs in eight games during a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Nashville.

1. Walt Davis Posted: May 30, 2023 at 05:47 PM (#6130818)God forbid I hijack a Luke Voit thread but the Cubs really swung and missed a lot on their offseason budget/short-term acquisitions. Bellinger has been excellent so far (currently on the IL) and Tauchmann (replacing Bellinger) has been fine in his 30 PAs (just a matter of time). The rest:
Hosmer DFA
Barnhart 30 OPS+
Rios 30 OPS+
Mastrobuoni 34 OPS+
Mancini 87 OPS+
Torrns sold
Taillon 55 ERA+
Boxberger 81 ERA+ (IL)
Fulmer 60 ERA+
Meanwhile some of the guys who were already around have gotten stuck
Madrigal 61 OPS+ (finally back in AAA)
Mervis 59 OPS+
B Davis 600 OPS at AAA
Wesneski 88 ERA+
Assad 90 ERA+
Thompson 106 ERA+ (hot start, now in AAA)
Kilian ("not ready yet" after one terrible start)
Nelson Velazquez hit well while he was up, got sent down anyway, is hitting OK at AAA, didn't get the call when Bellinger got hurt. Amaya has done OK but needs to get some PAs. But really no obvious help at AAA; Owen Caissie is doing well at AA at age 20; PCA doing OK. Name to watch: Bailey Horn, another anonymous reliever, but 29 K and 0 HR in 19 innings across AA/AAA -- at the least, surely he'll get the call at some point.
Obviously not all bad news. The starting lineup is fine, the top of the rotation is good. But "Bore to 84" is failing because the bit players have been pretty terrible. And Morel hasn't homered in 5 games!!
