Brewers, Lindblom finalize $9,125,000, 3-year contract

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Josh Lindblom’s journey to the Milwaukee Brewers included a detour or two through South Korea.

“I haven’t taken the most direct route to sitting here,” Lindblom said Monday after the Brewers finalized a three-year contract for $9,125,000.

A 32-year-old right-hander, Lindbloom was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2008 amateur draft, he made six starts and 108 relief appearances from 2011-14 for the Dodgers, Philadelphia, Texas and Oakland. He signed with South Korea’s Lotte Giants ahead of the 2015 season, returned to the major leagues with Pittsburgh and had four relief outings in 2017, then signed with South Korea’s Doosan Bears.

He went 35-7 in two seasons with a 2.68 ERA, including 20-3 with a 2.50 ERA and 0.997 WHIP in 30 starts this year.

There is something to be said for this sort of adventure, isn’t there?

Pretty good deal for Milwaukee, I think, though the lack of velocity is worrying.

Where are you seeing his velocity numbers?

You don't pay for the Korean statcast package?

Heh. I was thinking of this article.

Thanks! I can't believe there's a guy who made 32 MLB starts last year, and I never heard of him (Merrill Kelly).

I can identify with that sentiment, though - as someone who pays attention to NPB and the KBO - I was following Kelly's journey.
For that matter, I liked Londblom with the Pirates and thought have long thought that he could help teams, probably in excess of what his production would suggest.

Yep, me too. I'm glad he's getting another shot in the big show.

Though I guess I didn't like him enough to see that typo.

Too bad the minor leagues are folding and we'll never hear stories like this again.

Also in KBO->MLB news, the Cardinals have reportedly agreed to a deal with Kwang-Hyun Kim. Here's his bb-ref page and here are some DTs. Reportedly a swingman type with a very good slider and blah other pitches (includes a low 90s fastball, a forkball and a curve).

And the Jays might sign Shun Yamaguchi for something like 2/6m outta Japan. bb-ref, davenport
If true, Jays would also owe a posting fee of about 1.2m (20%). Another swingman type - averaged 90.2 mph on his fastball last year, best pitch is a splitter, mixes other blah stuff. Missed most of '17 due to suspension after a drunken altercation with a security guard.

Kim got 2/8.
