Carlos Beltran leaving YES Network for job in Mets’ front office

Former Mets great Carlos Beltran is getting another chance with the club.

Sources tell The Post the Mets are hiring their former star center fielder to join their front office, where he will work under GM Billy Eppler. It isn’t clear what Beltran’s duties will be yet, but he is a well-regarded baseball mind as well as a former superstar player.

Beltran’s hiring comes three years after he was hired as Mets manager then fired after he was linked to the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. Mets manager Buck Showalter considered Beltran for his coaching staff a year ago as assistant hitting coach but wasn’t able to do it at the time.

Beltran recently informed YES Network that he was leaving his broadcast job with them. Andrew Marchand reported in The Post there were plans to move Beltran from broadcasting games into the studio to do pre- and post-game duties.

both Beltran and Maybin were stunningly bad in the YES booth last year.

channel generally has had good choices over the years like Cone, Kaat, Singleton, etc. - so it was weird how badly they missed with those two.

Maybin actually was good on MLB Network, at least.

I think he played for something like 35 different MLB teams and had hundreds of teammates, so they had segments where Maybin would select which ex-teammate reminded him of certain current players. some surprises and amusements there.

I'm not thrilled to have Beltran back in the org, especially the front office given his connections to the 2017 Astros, but I don't doubt for a second his talent. However, I certainly believe in second chances and given that AJ Hinch and (especially) Alex Cora have received them, Beltran deserves the same.

I wouldn't be stunned if he's being groomed to succeed Showalter.

Carlos Beltran made Michael Kay look like Vin Scully. He was just awful--even by Yankees broadcast standards.

"Carlos made a mistake and he's admitted to it. He has meant a lot to this organization, and we are going to stand by him."

Is what they should have said in the first place. What kind of a "distraction" were they worried about? Booing on the road? Typical Wilpon move to wash their hands of him.

Is there any way to know if he's got any skills that will translate to the front office? Playing is not coaching is not managing is not talent evaluation, so all we do know is he played well, shouldn't ever announce again and was a good enough coach to get hired as a manager at one time. Is this just a spot to park him until Showalter inevitably wears out his welcome or do they think he'll be useful?

Can't say I'm sad to see Beltran leave YES. Kay, Cone and O'Neill make a perfect complementary team, and pretty much everyone else since Singleton has brought the chemistry down considerably. Beltran was especially annoying the way he refused to voice even the tiniest bit of criticism of any player, no matter how bad of a slump he was in.

One of the most important changes businesses need to make is to invest in and use new technologies. This could include everything from upgrading to the latest software and systems to investing in automation and analytics tools. By embracing these new technologies, businesses can improve their operations and make them more efficient. Additionally, taking advantage of new technologies can help reduce costs, increase productivity and generate more profits.Donald

#7 Is this what "influencers" do to make a living? Troll baseball sites with product ads?

Somehow, I heard it in Michael Kay's voice. It did not improve the experience.
