Carlos Correa thinks Yankees legend Derek Jeter ‘didn’t deserve’ five Gold Gloves

Correa was critical as he gave his opinions on Jeter’s defense. Here’s what he said:

“Derek Jeter, how many Gold Gloves did he win? Five, I think he won. ... Derek Jeter didn’t deserve any.”

Jeter was awarded the American League Gold Glove in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010, but he wouldn’t have won any if it was up to Correa. The free agent—who the Yankees may sign, by the way—backed up his critiques of Jeter with fielding analytics.

He mentioned Jeter’s minus-165 Defensive Runs Saved. Correa has a DRS of 67 in his seven years in Houston.

I guess Correa is pretty confident that he won't be getting any offers from the Yankees.

Guess he is trying to get fans of 29 other teams to like him - he certainly is going to find analytics people loving him now :)

28. This ruins his chances of signing with the Marlins.

Eh, Derek probably agrees and, regardless, wouldn't let it stop him from offering Correa a lucrative 3/$27 contract, backloaded so the Marlins can trade him next offseason.

One of the game's top ten players mentioning DRS in an interview? We've made it, gang!

Carlos Correa has one World Series ring that a lot of people don’t think he deserved ;-)

I’m not a Jeter defender, I know his defense was overrated but I’m not sure why Correa even brought this up.

Maybe it's some sort of convoluted ploy to ingratiate himself with Adam Everett fanboys.

So you're saying that Correa is staying in Houston?

As a free agent, you might think that he would want to maximize the size of contract offers coming his way. One way to do that would be to make sure the Yankees are involved in the bidding process. Ooops.

At least no one here who has ever said Jeter was a bad defender also cheated.

Now that I'm retired, I'll admit that at some point in a high school French final, our native French-speaking student was kind enough to lean to the side to give me a look at the last 4-5 answers on his sheet ... and I took advantage! I know you're all disappointed in me but it was a youthful mistake! (TM) Besides, the other 29 MLB teams were probably cheating on their French exams too, especially with no more Expos around to teach them.

I certainly didn't need those extra points to pass, I was possibly the 2nd-best student in the class (scary), but I certainly didn't know the last few. (It was dumb of me to cheat since I didn't need it, it was probably even dumber of him since this was probably the only class he was acing. We were friendly but not good friends or anything. We got away with it though.)

And I thought Jeter was a bad defender. That and cheating are probably the only two things Correa and I have in common.
