Even better
   602. Bote Man Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:21 PM (#5890831)
Juan Soto 2B drives in Eaton.

IBB to noted hitter Howie Kendrick to put runners at 1B, 2B to face Ryan Zimmerman.

WAS 2
STL 0 B1

I can't keep up with all the scoring!
   603. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:22 PM (#5890832)
After 3 games:

Nationals NLCS ERA: 0.33
Cardinals NLCS ERA: 4.59

Nationals NLCS Batting: .269/.327.433, .760 OPS
Cardinals NCLS Batting: .121/.167/.143, .310 OPS

Cardinals really need to step it up, but not looking good for them early. 2-0.
   604. toratoratora Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:25 PM (#5890834)
This is just sad
   605. Moses Taylor, glorified meat shield Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:25 PM (#5890835)
Ha, screw the Cardinals.

Mature, no. Whatever, I'm enjoying this.
   606. Bote Man Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:26 PM (#5890836)
What if they held an NLCS and one team didn't show up???
   607. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:26 PM (#5890837)
First inning - Nats : Cards :: Cards : Braves
   608. Brian C Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:26 PM (#5890838)
Man, the Cards are totally pulling a Braves in this elimination game.

ETA: And I just pulled an ElRoy Face.
   609. Zonk WARRIORS ALONE! Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:27 PM (#5890839)
This has been quite something.
   610. Jeremy Renner App is Dead and I killed it Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:27 PM (#5890840)
This evening is getting better and better
   611. Brian C Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:28 PM (#5890841)
My favorite part was dropping the pop-up.
   612. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:28 PM (#5890842)
There's no mature way to describe how easily the Cardinals have bent over for the Nationals this series.
   613. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:28 PM (#5890843)
I love watching baseballs fall between confused fielders
   614. Bote Man Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:28 PM (#5890844)
My favorite part was dropping the pop-up.

That was dropped by José Martinez, professional hitter.
   615. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:28 PM (#5890845)
ETA: And I just pulled an ElRoy Face.
Careful - if you keep pulling an ElRoy Face, your face will stick that way.
   616. Slutty Nutkins (CoB). Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:29 PM (#5890846)
Huh. Step into the shower 0-0; emerge and it's 5-0 Nats.

[edit] make that 7-0. I wonder what's saved on the DVR ...
   617. toratoratora Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:29 PM (#5890847)
Last time I saw a Cards team fall apart like this Andujar was on the mound.
   618. Zonk WARRIORS ALONE! Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:30 PM (#5890848)
How do you start a curse?

Because I want to start a curse.

Ever since the 2016 WS, the Cubs have cursed the NLC champs for all time going forward.

   619. Joey B. Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:30 PM (#5890849)
N-A-T-S Nats Nats Nats WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
   620. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:30 PM (#5890850)
Nice showing by the Birds this series.

I'll bet the Braves are thinking they couldn't possibly have done any worse.
   621. Bote Man Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:31 PM (#5890851)
Patrick Corbin, the pitcher, sacrifice bunt in the 1st inning.
   622. Zonk WARRIORS ALONE! Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:31 PM (#5890852)
This would be the point in ootp where I think I’d just open task manager and rage quit.
   623. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:32 PM (#5890853)
Nats gunning for the Cardinals' week-old record for most runs in an elimination-game inning.
   624. Jeremy Renner App is Dead and I killed it Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:32 PM (#5890854)
So awesome
   625. JJ1986 Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:32 PM (#5890855)
I did not think I'd miss this much in the first 20 minutes.
   626. Srul Itza Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:33 PM (#5890856)
Even though the Cards bats were largely silent the first three games, the first two games were still close, and the last did not get out of hand until the 5th or 6th.

This one has the feel of "screw it, let's go home and start the off-season" for the redbirds.
   627. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:35 PM (#5890858)
Last time I saw a Cards team fall apart like this Andujar was on the mound.

Where were you in '96?

   628. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:36 PM (#5890859)
The braves wouldn’t have gotten 27 outs in game 1 and the commissioner would have had to call it after three days. It would have been like a cricket match.
   629. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:36 PM (#5890860)
That one was "only" 6-0 after one, but the final (in a Game 7): 15-0
   630. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:37 PM (#5890861)
Man. If this ends 63-0 with Corbin throwing a 27-strikeout perfect game, that's gonna be something.

EDIT - Actually, no, that's wildly unrealistic - impossible, even. The Nats wouldn't bat in the bottom of the 9th, so it would only be 56-0.
   631. Brian C Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:38 PM (#5890862)
What fun for the Nats fans, though. How often do you hope and pray for the best only for it to actually exceed those hopes and prayers?

I mean, I know there's still 7.1 IP to go, but still. That first inning was an awesome thing to happen at your home field.
   632. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:40 PM (#5890863)
ElRoy, they could score 8 per inning the rest of the way and get 63.
   633. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:40 PM (#5890864)
The Cardinals have played like a pretty decent college team in this series.
   634. Dog on the sidewalk has an ugly bracelet Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:40 PM (#5890865)
This game feels over. Time to watch a dozen people shout over each other.
   635. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:41 PM (#5890866)
Nice stat by TBS: First time in postseason history that a team's starting hitters had zero RBI through three games.
   636. Brian C Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:41 PM (#5890867)
ElRoy, they could score 8 per inning the rest of the way and get 63.

I have to agree with ElRoy here ... please try to be at least a little bit realistic, there's no way they're getting more than 56.
   637. Tin Angel Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:41 PM (#5890868)
If I was Shildt I would walk up and down the dugout clapping my hands and saying “C’mon guys let’s get the bats going! It ain’t over ‘till it’s over! Etc., etc!”
   638. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:41 PM (#5890869)
Hudson's NLCS ERA: a cool 108 even.
   639. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:42 PM (#5890870)
If I was Shildt

Did you see the shot of him yukking it up with Flaherty? I think for the rest of the night they're just going to go out there and play and have fun.
   640. Bote Man Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:43 PM (#5890871)
This would be the point in ootp where I think I’d just open task manager and rage quit.

The Cards could save everyone a lot of time and trouble if they just forfeit. That's a thing in D.C. I hear.
   641. Zonk WARRIORS ALONE! Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:44 PM (#5890872)
That ball was hooking wickedly..... to be fair.

Does watching this game to see st louis lose count as revenge porn?
   643. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:46 PM (#5890874)
No Washington team nor the expos have ever swept a series.
   644. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:46 PM (#5890875)
ElRoy, they could score 8 per inning the rest of the way and get 63.
Well yes, but that's not the pace.
   645. Brian C Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:46 PM (#5890876)
Does watching this game to see st louis lose count as revenge porn?

Only if you share the video of them losing with your friends afterwards.
   646. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:47 PM (#5890877)
wait a minute, do I detect a little momentum shift?

"RA! RA! Managers" are the new market inefficiency.

Did you see the shot of him yukking it up with Flaherty? I think for the rest of the night they're just going to go out there and play and have fun.

And so begins the miraculous comeback!
   649. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:52 PM (#5890880)
First hit by a lefty. Ha.
   650. Tin Angel Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:54 PM (#5890882)
Not the best at bat I’ve ever seen.
   651. yo la tengo Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:58 PM (#5890883)
A team playing as well as the Nats are right now does not want a long layoff before the series, right? How many days might they be looking at to wait for the series?
   652. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 08:59 PM (#5890884)
If I’m the Nara, I cut Corbin for giving up a hit before the 6th.

A team playing as well as the Nats are right now does not want a long layoff before the series, right?
I think they'd be all right with the starters getting an extra day or three of rest, and if Astros/Yankees burn out their bullpens on their way to the Series, I tihnk the Nats would be fine with a layoff.
   654. Tin Angel Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:01 PM (#5890886)
Game 1 is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22nd. So a week.

Absolutely, in fact, I would argue that they should throw this game to prolong the series.

Game 1 is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22nd. So a week.
Damn, I didn't realize it was that far off. That's awful. WHY YOU DO DIS MLB
   657. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:07 PM (#5890892)
A couple days off and bring your 40 man guys in and play.
   658. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:13 PM (#5890893)
Cards score their first earned run. Not technically but realistically.
   659. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:13 PM (#5890894)
Damn, I didn't realize it was that far off. That's awful. WHY YOU DO DIS MLB

How is the NBA able to pull off its quick turnarounds after short series?

Did you all go to bed?
   661. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:14 PM (#5890897)
Corbin looking a little shaky on that one pitch.
   662. Bote Man Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:15 PM (#5890898)
Did you all go to bed?

It's over. It has always been over.
   663. Moses Taylor, glorified meat shield Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:16 PM (#5890900)
All you need to know about this series:

Paul Goldschmidt has struck out 6 PA in a row...and 8 of his last 10.

Unreal.
   664. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:17 PM (#5890901)
659: I don’t know for certain but I think mlb contracts the dates for tv. They set them in stone while the nba starts as soon as both teams are done. Some teams still get long layoffs if their opponent series goes long. Like will happen here.
   665. Brian C Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:18 PM (#5890902)
Did you all go to bed?

No, I was just quietly pondering - if this was an online baseball video game tournament, would it be an eLimination game?
   666. Spahn Insane Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:32 PM (#5890904)
Gotta say, I'm pleased to see the Nats doing so well, notwithstanding that it makes Joey B happy (being Joey B is, after all, its own punishment, and Bote, Esoteric, Bourbon Samurai, et al are fine upstanding Nat fans). I'm happy for Deivi as well; this is quite the Lazarus act, between last year's mediocrity and this year's atrocious start. An Astros /Nats series would be terrific, and I hope we get it.

And of course, that they're giving the Cardinals a sad after doing the same to the Brewers is a bonus (to say nothing of bouncing the evil blue empire). I'm thoroughly enjoying this run they're on.
   667. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:33 PM (#5890905)
Well it’s kind of stating the obvious here but if the Cards have any hope they have to convert this into a big inning.
   668. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:35 PM (#5890906)
Yeah, I have a lot of friends and family who are big Nats fans and have suffered a lot in the postseason. And there are a lot of great ones here. So happy for them.

And I may be jinxing it.
   669. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:41 PM (#5890907)
Huh
   670. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:41 PM (#5890908)
Oh! Look! Drama!
   671. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:42 PM (#5890909)
Well this just got interestinger.

Game on!
   673. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:42 PM (#5890911)
How was it that Fowler barely scored from 2nd on a double?
   674. Meatwad Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:44 PM (#5890912)
I do not approve of the way this inning is going.
   675. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:47 PM (#5890913)
Goldy K's again. Is that 7 in a row now?
   676. Tom Nawrocki Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:47 PM (#5890914)
Goldschmidt has been kind of a quiet disaster for the Cardinals.
   677. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:48 PM (#5890915)
And Ozuna completes his hat trick of K's.

That Cards middle order is not going well.
   678. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:48 PM (#5890916)
Could have got more but they got enough that it’s a ball game.
   679. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:48 PM (#5890917)
I’ll be honest, I thought sticking with Corbin was a mistake but he did the job.
   680. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:50 PM (#5890918)
Corbin threw Ozuna three pitches inches off the ground, and Ozuna swung at all three. He seems to have zero situational awareness---this pitcher has thrown almost 40 pitches this inning, has walked a couple guys, you can pull your team to within 2, and that's the AB you have???

Good luck in free agency.
   681. Bote Man Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:55 PM (#5890920)
Barry Svrluga @barrysvrluga
Since their seven-run first inning, the Nats are 1 for 12 with a walk.

It's still over.
   682. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 09:58 PM (#5890921)
I will say, when we were discussing pulling flaherty in game 5 of the lds, I said 10-0 was different than 7-0. A 4 run inning makes the latter a game where the former isn’t.
   683. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:03 PM (#5890924)
Came late to this game, didn't actually watch the 1st inning, had no idea until just now, when TBS showed a recap, how terribly the Cardinals' defense f*cked up that inning---"normal" defense and just 2 runs score, instead of 7. What a choke in an elimination game.
   684. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:08 PM (#5890925)
Braves should have been out of their inning with way less damage too. Probably not many innings that big without some bad defense
   685. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:10 PM (#5890926)
Yeah, for the most part Major League teams dont’ give up big innings without either some sketchy defense or the pitchers struggling with control. Generally MLB pitching and defense is good enough that it is difficult to string together 7-8 hits in an inning.
   686. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:15 PM (#5890927)
Probably not many innings that big without some bad defense

Good point.
   687. Rally Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:20 PM (#5890930)
Uh oh, maybe Nats should have used a defensive replacement, never mind. Great catch Soto! 8 outs to go
   688. bunyon Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:20 PM (#5890931)
Or walks like Jose says.

I’d give Doolittle the 8th.

Yadier Molina = I anomaly raid
   690. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:21 PM (#5890933)
I thinkk the Birds still have a couple more runs in them... I see a 7-6 final with a little drama.
   691. Rally Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:22 PM (#5890934)
Doo with an efficient 7th. I’m guessing the plan is to split the last 9 outs between him and Hudson. With a quick inning Doo might complete the 8th too.
   692. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:23 PM (#5890935)
Doolittle got through the 7th on only 9 pitches, so should be good for part, or all, of 8th before giving way to Hudson.
   693. Sunday silence Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:27 PM (#5890936)

If it’s still a three run game heading to the ninth is Scherzer a possible closer?
   695. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:31 PM (#5890938)
Who's left on the St. Louis bench to PH for Goldschmidt/Ozuna?
   696. Bote Man Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:31 PM (#5890940)
Uh oh, maybe Nats should have used a defensive replacement, never mind. Great catch Soto! 8 outs to go

Soto and Robles have both noticeably improved over the course of this season.

Of course, if the Nats REALLY want to get serious they'll bring in Michael A. "Mr. October" Taylor.

I would not let Doolittle face the next three. They murder lefties.
   700. Rally Posted: October 15, 2019 at 10:38 PM (#5890946)
I’d bring in Dozier and Taylor for Kendrick and Soto, since their spots probably won’t come up again.
