Check out all 30 Opening Day starters

Opening Day will feature eight Cy Young Award winners on the mound (Sandy Alcantara, Shane Bieber, Corbin Burnes, Jacob deGrom, Zack Greinke, Corey Kluber, Max Scherzer and Blake Snell) and 21 All-Star hurlers. In addition, five pitchers—deGrom, Kyle Gibson, Kluber, Pablo López and Kyle Muller—will take the mound on Opening Day in a debut performance with their new clubs.

I think the Braves are probably going to win on Opening Day.

Back in the early 2000's I happened to be in Vegas on opening day. I bet on my A's to win and got a seat at ESPN zone at the New York New York casino and watched Tim Hudson throw a shutout. Good times.

Lots of good match ups. TEX vs. PHI or MIA vs. NYM seem like the best of the lot, but lots of good ones.

Are the home teams listed first?

This probably won't be even close to the worst Cubs team we've seen, but it might be the most boring. They seem roughly average in every respect, as if Hoyer purposely built a team designed to win - and lose - a ton of 4-2 games. It feels like the floor is something like 79 wins but the ceiling is something like 83 - obviously the real curve is wider than that, but this just feels like a team you'd build if you were trying to build a .500 team.

And in that respect, Stroman seems appropriate as the Opening Day starter - a guy who will go out and give you a bunch of quality-ish starts without ever looking really great or really terrible. Perfectly respectable without truly excelling or failing - that's the 2023 Cubs.

Yes it seems the strategy is a bit above-average pitching, a bit above-average defense, a bit below-average hitting, win! I'm not sure we'll hit enough though, depends a lot on Messrs Bellinger and Swanson.

That might be a regular goal in the 12-team playoff era. Somewhere around 85 wins is doable for almost anybody and those "no stars but no holes" teams often do better than that. In many ways, that should work in the Cubs' favor over the long term -- at least now while waiting for the kids, there's a potentially hefty reward for the Drive for 75 ... or the Line to 79 ... or Bore and 84. Maybe removes the excuse for the Cubs ever losing 100 again as part of a rebuild.

The Tigers' Opening Day pitcher is a guy who went 5-5 last year with a 93 ERA+. Yeesh. (Is it too late to bring back Jack Morris?)

Yeah, the poor guy has some extenuating circumstances, to say the least. Long COVID, Myocarditis, public marital difficulties...
