Chicago White Sox, Lance Lynn agree to 2-year, $38M extension

For Lance Lynn, it was pretty simple.

“There’s no point in going into free agency if you know where you want to be,” he said.

Lynn is enjoying his first season on the South Side of Chicago, and the White Sox feel the same way. So they solidified their relationship Saturday, announcing a two-year, $38 million contract extension for the All-Star right-hander.

The 34-year-old Lynn is 9-3 with an American League-best 1.99 ERA in 16 starts. He was acquired in a December trade with the Texas Rangers for right-hander Dane Dunning and lefty Avery Weems.

With Lynn helping anchor the rotation, the White Sox had an eight-game lead in the American League Central heading into Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros.

“They’ve put together a winner here,” Lynn said. “That’s what I want to be part of and help to kind of push it over the top to get a championship.”

Lynn will make $18.5 million in each of the next two seasons. The White Sox have an $18 million option for 2024 with a $1 million buyout.

Great pickup for the White Sox. This guy just goes out and pitches well consistently, and stays healthy, generally.

Lynn has appeared in 26 postseason games and gotten a ring with the 2011 Cardinals as a pennant with the 2013 Redbirds.

only 7 of those are starts (he pitched out of the 'pen in 2011 overall and 2012 postseason).

5-4, 4.80 ERA in 54.3 IP, 59 H, 28 BB, 52 K.

quite the wild child!

I'm surprised he's "only" 34 years old.

113-74 career, 3.47 ERA and 120 ERA+ - and he keeps getting better.
has missed a total of 6 starts in 8 years (!) - or 10 in his 9 MLB seasons as a starter.

It's nice to actually see a player follow through when he says how much he enjoys playing for a team/city. I'm really happy to have Lance on my favorite team for the next couple of years, though I'm worried this means Carlos Rodon is a goner. I wish there was a way to sign Rodon and jettison Keuchel.

You either have too many or too few words in this sentences.

heh
"a ring with the 201 Cardinals AND a pennant with the 2013 Redbirds."

Notably, he gave up the runs which gave the Rangers one of the leads that they couldn't hold in the famous Game 6.

Why would you omit the entire season he missed? Don't get me wrong, he is incredibly durable, and your general point stands, but simply not mentioning a missed year is rather disingenuous.

it most certainly is NOT "disingenuous."

but it IS a mistake (see, we all make those - even you, when you made an inaccurate assumption!).

I didn't notice the razor-thin horizontal bar that separates Lynn's 2015 and 2017 seasons. It seems remarkable for such an otherwise durable pitcher to not have a single partial season in a decade - with nine as a workhorse, and one without an inning at all. (innings pitched, 2015-2017 - 175, 0, 186.)

I highly doubt there are more than a handful of such results in MLB history, and this one tripped me up.

#1 He's been a teeny bit better than that so far. Yeah. Unlikely that it's a new ability level but I know I'd settle.

THAT is one long f*cking career. Dude's been toiling away for just over 1800 years!

ZIPS likes him so much that Dan Szymborski would have signed him to a longer contract. Whatever anxiety Sox fans had about the trade involved Lynn's free agency, so we are all pretty happy between this contract and his performance to date.
