This is actually a great overview of the state of professional baseball in Asia, in addition to a story about how the leagues are handling COVID-19

NPB seems like it's a long way off. Hopefully Korea will be up and running by May. In the meantime. Taiwanese baseball every morning at 6:30 on Twitch!

The NPB season will start on June 19:
Nippon Professional Baseball commissioner Atsushi Saito announced Monday that the league plans to kick off its regular season on June 19 — nearly three months after the originally scheduled March 20 date. As has been the case in Taiwan and South Korea, where their top leagues are already underway, games will begin without fans in attendance. NPB teams will aim to play 120 games in their condensed season, which represents a reduction from the 143-game norm.

So finish the regular season around November? Or try to pack a bunch of double headers in?

I don’t think double headers would work well. You’d need extra pitchers or you’ll destroy the arms you have, not that NPB necessarily is against that. From a business sense it’s all about ratings since no fans. I am happy watching 3 hours of my favorite team most every day. But if double headers were a regular thing, I couldn’t do 6. I’d probably look at the better pitching matchup and make that my watch game.

Former MLB Players in NPB Japan Pacific League:
Daisuke Matsuzaka, RHP: You read that right. Dice-K is still chugging along. The now-39-year-old veteran pitched just 5 1/3 innings for the Chunichi Dragons last year due to a shoulder injury that, according to the Japan Times, was caused by an excited fan grabbing/yanking his arm (seriously). Matsuzaka was NPB’s comeback player of the year in 2018 and is returning to the Lions, his original club, for the first time since 2006.
Some interesting nuggets, but not enough to get me to tune in regularly - time difference is brutal.

NPB teams often run a 6-man 7-day rotation. So someone is often your "Tuesday pitcher" or whatever. One doubleheader a week, maybe every Saturday, means you're carrying one more starting pitcher. That would seem pretty well feasible, and cut about 3 weeks of calendar time in total. (For MLB too.)
