Craig, Cavan Biggio become second father-son duo to hit for the cycle in MLB

BALTIMORE – Rookie Cavan Biggio hit for the cycle, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-5 on Tuesday night.

Biggio homered in the third, singled in the sixth, doubled in the eighth and tripled in the ninth. He drove in four runs and scored three times.

Biggio and his father, Craig, a Hall of Famer with the Houston Astros, are the second father-son duo in major league history to hit for the cycle, joining Daryle and Gary Ward.

Something to add to the notes on baseball families we’ve been compiling in another thread.

It would have taken me approximately infinity*infinity guesses to get Gary and Daryle.

So have any grandfathers and grandsons done it? :-)

Daryle Ward, triples machine.

Fun fact, Daryle Ward was drafted by an American League team, but played for six teams, all National League, in his big league career. Fellow pinch hitter/corner guy Mark Sweeney bests him with seven.

Wow, I remember Daryle Ward. It's amazing that he ever got a triple, but he had five in his career (2462 PA).

Another fun fact is that Ward's photo on his Baseball-Reference page has him in Reds uniform, even though he never played a regular season game for the Reds. But his last MLB stint was in spring training with the Reds in 2009, so I guess that's the most recent photo of him in an MLB uniform. He's now the hitting coach for the Reds' AA affiliate, so it sort of works.
