As a right-handed hitter, he would balance out the Diamondbacks’ lefty-heavy lineup. He has performed well against left-handed pitching throughout his career, including in recent seasons. He also is regarded as a strong veteran presence and positive influence for younger players, something the Diamondbacks are hoping to add to their clubhouse.
Longoria told reporters last month that if he did not return to the Giants, the only other places he was interested in playing were Arizona or Tampa, where he began his career. He said he has homes in both places.
