David Eckstein filmed a very inside baseball ad for the fake law firm from Parks And Recreation

SHO BIZ OOZ. F-STRIKE.

Last week’s episode of Parks honored that tradition with a rather brilliant passing nod to the baseball commentary Schur and Yang became known for outside their comedy writing. The law firm that Ben takes Ron Swanson to in order to prepare an actual will is named for the sabermetric instruments BABIP, PECOTA, and VORP, as well as the scrappy, statistics-defying career of David Eckstein. Now Eckstein has committed to the joke, filming a Bob Loblaw-esque commercial for the firm. And he’s got a message for any doubters crying for empirical measurements of the firm’s success like number of cases won: “Well I have a number for you: four. It’s the number of chambers in the best law book money can buy: my heart.” Excuse us while we prep a spec script on a minor league baseball team near Pawnee.

Edit: Embed added. Jim.

Beautiful.

I love the way he pronounces BABIP.

Eckstein 1, Everyone Else 0.

I was confused at first about why he had a diploma from my (and Casey Kotchman's) high school but per BB-Ref I see that it's just a different one. It also produced both of the Tim Raines's and recent Angels catcher Bobby Wilson...who apparently also went to my Seminole High at some point, likely while I was there. Weird.

The "regressing" and "better than the guy last year" bits were excellent.
Maybe a bit TOO much like Bob Loblaw (with the book closing) but legitimately well done.

"Gritty, scrappital punishment." Very nice.

That was great. Why did he retire? His last season seems indistinguishable from a bunch that came before it.

He never really retired. He got some feelers in 2012, but said he was looking for the right situation. It didn't materialize.

He likely could have gotten at least a minor league camp invite last year. But he moved on to managing his wife's acting career instead.

Man. I loved him on the Angels. I'm totally going to get my 2002 DVD's out tonight.

I remember when David Eckstein was, briefly, a stathead darling. He had Jackie Rexrodian OBPs in the minors.

What's the deal with that hair?

I think he is trying to channel this guy

The combover in this picture doesn't look nearly as egregious as in the Elk and Elk commercials we see in Ohio.

An excellent fake ad from the best fictional city since the Springfield of classic Simpsons episodes. Parks and Rec is reliably funny and it's nice to have an excellent sincere comedy in a world of sarcasm and snark.

Eckstein kind of became a reverse Jeremy Brown....the snark over how much the traditionalists valued his grit and hustle kind of obscure the fact that he was a pretty useful player for most of his career.
