One day after the World Series concluded, the Tigers acquired Cincinnati Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart in a trade, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. In exchange, the Tigers sent infield prospect Nick Quintana to the Reds.
Barnhart, 30, has played all eight of his MLB seasons with the Reds. He is best known for his defense as a two-time Gold Glove winner, but the left-hander also hit .247 with seven home runs and 48 RBIs in 116 games this past season.

They didn't mention in the 2-4 line preview of the email that it also meant they were trading away Tucker Barnhart, I've just learned that here.
I will say that Barnhart's glove work (especially on picking/blocking balls in the dirt) is top shelf. Not sure if that's quantifiable but I'm pretty comfortable with the idea that Barnhart will be overpaid in 2022.
I doubt anyone is going to take a discount to play for the Tigers
I doubt anyone was going to offer Barnhart $7.5 M. Do you think they were? Otherwise you don't have a counter-point.
He very well could have taken a discount to play elsewhere, like a contender.
