Devin Williams fractures hand after punching wall

In a devastating blow for a team with World Series hopes predicated on pitching, the Brewers placed Devin Williams on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a fractured right hand, which the ace setup man suffered from punching a wall in the hours following Sunday’s National League Central-clinching win over the Mets.

Williams will begin the postseason on the IL for the second straight year and will require surgery that will sideline him at least through the end of the National League Championship Series. Last season, he suffered a right shoulder injury during the final week of the regular season and missed the NL Wild Card Series against the Dodgers.

“Bull Durham” should be required viewing for all baseball players.

What an idiot. Punching a wall after a WIN is a nice new twist.

I shudder to think what he would've done after a loss. (Nukes?)

Authorities believe alcohol was involved.

He addressed teammates on Tuesday afternoon to tell them what happened. Williams said he had too much to drink and got upset about something on the ride home. He later punched a wall with his pitching hand.
The article seems to gloss over the details, which Williams may have been reluctant to share. Can’t imagine why that would be the case. Perhaps the BBTF sleuths will be able to provide the inside scoop.

Let's hope at least it was indeed the "ride" home, not the "drive" home.

I suspect by “wall” he means “someone’s face”.

Big blow for brewers who have had a lackluster September and now this.

Good news is they still have a kick ass pitching staff

I'm amazed that this still happens to somebody every year. Bad break for the Brewers, but I imagine one of their backend starters, who have still been pretty good, will be moving to the bullpen for the playoffs.

Kick-ass and punch-wall!

11--Aaron Ashby is the guy who fits the profile and would be great in that role. Left handed. Good to great stuff. Can go multiple innings. Unfortunately CC looks like he really wants Boxberger. Which at least is better than Suter. But Ashby is the better choice

Ashby was filthy last night, really fun to watch.
