I see Draft Kings Daily Fantasy Line-Up is now part of the MLB Tonight show on the MLB Network. On MASN, the Nationals & Orioles cable channel, the pre-game show, sponsored by Fan Duel, has a segment when its special gambling correspondent, wearing MASN apparel, touts various betting opportunities, providing detailed explanations for any novice bettors in audience. I assume this is the case everywhere, and will only get more noticeable.

well, I believe there are 19 regional sports networks whose branding has shifted from Fox to Bally's - an ever-expanding gambling company.

so yes.

Golf Channel the other day had a segment - not a commercial or an infomercial - that featured a "betting expert" chatting with one of the channel's regular golf announcers about some wagers that could pay off.

and of course the NFL last week cut deals with three sports betting operators that will bring the league almost $1 billion over the next five years.

there would be no such deal if not for the stubbornness of New Jersey voters, lawmakers, and then lawyers who toppled the near-universal federal ban three years ago. would be nice if the league offered a sliver to Garden Staters.

cardinals scoring in bunches in Wash tonight, as dejong clobbers a grand slam after STL was already up 6-2, then williams follows with a rocket.

11-2 STL

some fan dropped the dejong homer, threw his glove in disgust. then he caught the williams homer. gotta love it.

check that, the fan dropped a homer by edmon earlier in the game. i think.

anyway, lots of homers.

In the April 14 OmniChatter I noted that:
Joe Ross got the win for the Nationals today with 6 scoreless innings against the Cardinals, following 5 shutout innings in his 1st start. That’s 11 innings, 0 runs, 9 K, 3 BB, and only 6 hits. Could be small sample size, but maybe he’s found something.
I’m now leaning to small sample size. Or maybe just a jinx? Although Joe started the game with another scoreless inning, he then gave up 10 earned runs in his next 3.1 innings, some of which are described in posts # 7 & 8.

OK, i'm just some old guy in an armchair and all, but if jordan hicks is throwing 100 half the time, why can't he take a little bit off and be a starter? he's got a slider now. he says he always wanted to be a starter.

Why the hell is anyone wearing a mask in the stadium ? Only reason, not to be indentified as a Giants fan. Only reason.

Go Giants !

UT Hernan Perez pitching the 9th for the Nats

they trail, 12-5, and this is his second pitching outing of the season and his 9th in the last 5 years.

he had 3 appearances for Brewers in both 2018 and 2019.

5 Ks in 8 1/3 IP, including two in his 1-2-3 appearance last week against same Cardinals. fringe OFs Williams and Thomas whiffed. 9 pitches, 3 outs.

gets Molina to pop up to lead off. Carlson triple, popup, line out to CF. 8 pitches, I think.

where was this guy for the Nats' pen in the first half of 2019? he'd have 20 SV by the All-Star break !

He actually imitates the style of various more successful pitchers. Surprisingly effective, for a position player.

Seinfeld called in tonight to WFAN NYC sports talk radio

Neil Best
.@JerrySeinfeld said he did not buy #Mets because he does not have enough money, and because "I don’t need more people yelling at me on 79th Street when the Mets are on a losing streak."

Fox to Bally's

You can blame God-fearing Liberty Media. They sold the naming rights to Bally's after buying FSN from Disney who got hold of it when they bought 21st C Fox. The Feds seemed to tell Disney that it was OK to build a monopoly in film and TV but god forbid there should be a monopoly in sportscasting, so Disney had to sell it.

When I first got to Oz, they had the betting sites that bought ads also providing "expert" gambling commentary. The Oz regulators shut that down (at least for over-air, don't know about satellite/stream) and forced them to label those as ads at least. I suspect the FCC might do the same for any over-air games but US cable is largely unregulated on this stuff. The FCC only exists based on the notion that the public gave the airwaves to the broadcasters so the broadcasters have to accept regulation -- that's not true for cable.

Silence that ...

You seriously think that added something? Grow up.
