Dodgers’ Mookie Betts unseats Yankees’ Aaron Judge for MLB’s top jersey

Judge slotted second ahead of Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper, who is in the second season of a 13-year, $330 million deal.

Fernando Tatis Jr., a breakout star with the San Diego Padres, ranked fourth, ahead of fellow youngster Juan Soto of the Washington Nationals. It’s the first time two players age 21 or younger cracked the top five since Harper and Mike Trout in 2012.

It’s the first year on the list for Tatis, Soto and Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, who ranked 19th after signing a nine-year, $324 million deal with New York.

Altuve in the top 20? Who can fit into those? Are they selling MLB jerseys in the shire now?

Definitely the work of Saruman, and blame falls on Peter Jackson for cutting the scouring of the shire from Return of the King.

Altuve in the top 20?
Sales jumped when people realized you can remove the buzzer and use it as a...romantic aid.

People just want to buy an Altuve jersey before they disappear. He’s only got a year or so left before he completely falls off the cliff

C: Yadi
1B: Bellinger
2B: Baez
SS: Tatis
3B: Machado
OF: Judge, Betts, Harper
DH: Soto
SP: Scherzer, Kershaw, Cole

Pretty solid lineup. Javy might be having an even worse year with the bat than Altuve but Bryant's not doing anything this year either so no shenanigans like Machado to 2B. It's a shame Mr. Trout just isn't good enough for this team.

Considering that Judge didn't change teams and Betts did probably plays into the demand.

Do players get a cut of the sales of their jersey? I’m under the impression that they just get the licensing fee negotiated by the MLBPA, but it seems like they should get something that reflects the sales volume. They aren’t inexpensive.

A player can opt out of the MLBPA's licensing agreement but I don't think "Yankees RF" jerseys will sell all that well. Otherwise I'm pretty sure it's collective revenue. What I don't remember is whether it's paid directly to players or goes into pension/health insurance. Spread across all those players, it's probably a pretty trivial chunk of their salary and would probably have more impact if directed to pensions, etc. for pre-FA, any surviving NeLers, destitute players, etc.

Trout trails Anthony Rizzo? It's not like he plays in KC or something, LA is a pretty big place!

#8 that really stood out to me as well. So did Yadier Molina. I guess I didn't appreciate how beloved he is.

LA is a pretty big place!
”Of Anaheim” is a somewhat smaller place.

Alejandro Kirk will move up that list quick :) Who doesn't love a 5'8" 265 lbs catcher who is just 21?

I am surprised deGrom doesn't scratch in somewhere. Biggest star in the biggest market.
