Dorktown: How to score 10 runs in the first inning and lose

On June 8th, 1989, the Pittsburgh Pirates produced one of the greatest first innings in baseball history, jumping out to a 10-0 lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. No team had ever before done so and lost. From there … well, come on, you know where this is going. But you might never guess which road we’re taking to get there.

Love me some Dorktown. Come for the Steve Jeltz tribute, stay for the blistering details of Jim Rooker's Camino de Keystone. Actions do have consequences!

Thank you for acknowledging Kansas is a football school, Jon.

Around that same time the Cubs scored 6 vs. the Pirates in the top of an extra inning-and lost anyway.

Cubs scored 5 in the top of the inning then allowed 6 in the bottom of the frame. The day before, Dawson hit a 9th inning grand slam to give them a one-run lead - and they lost the next half-inning.

I think #3 and 4 are talking about the same game. Cubs led 7-2 going to the bottom of the 8th, Pirates tied. Cubs scored 5 in the 11th, including the Dawson slam, and the Pirates answered with 6. 13-12, April 21, 1991.
