Dorktown: Two-strike strikeouts, three-ball walks, and other counting failures

Have you ever tried counting to four? It’s a skill that’s almost impossible to master, and baseball players and umpires find it as difficult as the rest of us do. In this episode of Dorktown, we’re examining the dozens of times that everyone on the baseball diamond has gotten the count wrong.

On a tangent - if MLB is going to have 7-inning games, instead of eliminating the 8th and 9th innings, which messes with everyone's sense of how close the game is to the end, how about we eliminate the 5th and 6th innings instead? No one will miss the middle innings.

This makes sense. Especially in spring training. SP would often only go 4, and then we'd see Frankie Rodriguez or Trevor Hoffman.
Eliminate the 8th and 9th, but keep calling them the 5th and 6th. Play the 7th, with a stretch, and maybe a socially distanced band twanging of John Fogerty's "Centerfield" but with the understanding that the new 7th is the old 9th.

Also way easier, per the OP, to count to 21 than 27 outs. And with all the gambling now pervasive and legally authorized by MLB... Blackjack!

Hey, I submitted this a week ago! Good video.

Hah, I've made this argument (although I think you skip innings 1 and 2) - it's very confusing watching a 7-inning game and having to keep remembering "it says the 6th but actually this is like the 8th inning". Just skip the first two innings, start in the 3rd, and it becomes much less confusing as to how late in the game you actually are.

And if it goes to extras, it's the ninth inning again until it's time for the tenth.

(I'm kind of half-serious here, because the "late innings" deal during the shortened doubleheader games threw me)

This is also a good way to get your opener to pitch deep into games.
