With two hits Wednesday night, Elvis Andrus passes Jim Fregosi and Albert Belle for 441st in career Hits (1,727).

so the Yankees are having a home ceremony in which frontline medical workers are being introduced before they each go out to one position in the field. nothing unsurprising about that, given the hell such workers went through in March and April in particular.

Yankees and Red Sox players are on the steps of the dugout, applauding - sort of.

actually they are banging what appear to be - as God is my witness - trash can lids.

#Yankees and #RedSox thank frontline heroes by banging metal lids. They’re doing it almost exactly at 7 pm ET, which is the time we honor all those men and women that saved us in NYC.

So Porcello is on the Mets now.

Do the Braves usually bat Acuna leadoff?

Have we had a nasty line drive rip the head off a cardboard fan yet?

Matt Adams beats the shift.

Adam Duvall of the Braves hit a home run over the weekend that bonked Jeff McNeil's dog Willow's cutout in the RF stands.

No, they finally put up nets this year, just in time to protect them. Whew.

Two-run HR by Aaron Judge gives the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the 3rd. Made a nice throw to double the runner off first in the top half of the inning, too.

Who's the jackass sitting in the Cubs' dugout without a mask?

since Ronald Acuna has been justifiably chastised in these parts for a lack of hustle, in the interest of fairness I want to point out that he has a "hustle double" tonight.

hard-hit ball looks like a routine single, but Acuna must have remembered the scouting report of Nimmo having a so-so arm, so he busted it and made it to second. and when the ball got away, he started to run toward third before wisely thinking better of that plan (with 2 outs).

Is that the first Javy Javying of the year?
   14. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 31, 2020 at 09:56 PM (#5967249)
Gritty, gutsy Brett Gardner puts it in the 2nd deck in RF for 2 more, now 5-1, Yankees over Red Sox.

the 2020 SF Giants were the first team ever to go the first 7 games of a season with no starter lasting 5 innings.

and tonight, they made that 8 in a row.

with eccentric-at-best Gabe Kapler at the helm and a bad staff, maybe they run the table!

Tommy John for Tommy Kahnle. <sigh>.

The Metsing is in mid-season form.

Seranthony Dominguez had TJ yesterday. He hadn’t pitched in 421 days He might be out for a 1,000 days total between pitches if he has a slow recovery.

Brian Goodwin's going to be one of those guys that will be able to parlay these few weeks into long-term financial security.
   21. Walt Davis Posted: July 31, 2020 at 11:22 PM (#5967269)
Goodwin was already arb eligible so "$2.2 M" this year. Career 106 OPS+, a bit below-average in his 1000 PA ... he was already a very good bet to last at least 2 more arb years, probably getting to $8-9 total anyway.

I didn't think Wade Davis could get a 1-run save.
   23. puck Posted: July 31, 2020 at 11:53 PM (#5967273)
Wade Davis just dragged a bunch of wood onto the field, doused it with accelerant, and lit it on fire.

At least Kimbrel is throwing strikes <eye roll>.
   25. Walt Davis Posted: August 01, 2020 at 12:03 AM (#5967276)
Kimbrel could use about 9 more weeks of getting in shape.
   26. Walt Davis Posted: August 01, 2020 at 12:04 AM (#5967277)
Successful outing for the Cubs pen -- only 3 runs in 3 innings!!
   27. puck Posted: August 01, 2020 at 12:17 AM (#5967279)
Kirby Yates just got pulled after a Kimbrel like performance. Bases loaded, 2 outs, Padres up by 1.
   28. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: August 01, 2020 at 12:19 AM (#5967280)
Yet another bad bullpen night for the Angels.
   29. puck Posted: August 01, 2020 at 12:25 AM (#5967282)
Padres hang on for the win. Ex Rockie Drew Pomeranz gets the final out.
   30. Walt Davis Posted: August 01, 2020 at 12:50 AM (#5967286)
Cub starters: 40.1 IP, 12 R
Cub bullpen: 21.2 IP, 24 R (9 HR)
Cub offense: 44 R thankfully

2.67 RA for the starters, 9.97 for the pen. Only 1 UER, that charged to the pen. Won't make a dent.
