The sad thing is The Ballpark looked really nice. Couldn't find a way to retro fit an air conditioner on it?

Eh. No big deal. They'll just build another stadium in a few years.

“Looks like a megachurch married a livestock auction and had a baby.”
Isn't that, like, the ultimate compliment in Texas?

Any place from Waco on north, that's probably true!

This is just unbelievably bad. It looks like a generic machine shed used to park tractors in.

Provided the megachurch and the livestock union are opposite-sex, of course.

Maybe they have a plan to paint the roof to look better. Actually I assume they have a plan to paint the roof; MAYBE it will look better than a giant shed. But probably it will have sponsor logos.

It's multi-use, in the winter it serves as a Menard's.

$1 billion doesn't go as far as it used to.

I like that they can sell the home grille version to Rangers fans.

Does the air conditioning work? We were told that was all that mattered.

If you build it ... NOT LIKE THAT RAY!!

I hope there's a good reason that roof's not covered in solar panels. (I can imagine they might shake off when they retract that thing -- it looks even uglier -- or I can imagine they are some sort of covert solar panels and that's why it looks so ugly.)

Beyond the one in the excerpt, I like the reference to the Astros' trash can.

EDIT: And why can't BDC have nice things?

This is Texas Walt. It probably has something to do with solar panels being a pinko-commie plot. First solar panels, next thing you know they'll be fluoridating your water.

Good lord, here I am defending TX.

The state has a lot of solar and wind-generated power. Yes, the state's mythos is wrapped up on oil and cowboys, but money is money and desert is just sand waiting to be monetized.

$1 billion doesn't go as far as it used to.

it could be worse - the Giants/Jets stadium cost $1.6 billion and NJ taxpayers weren't even gracious enough to pay for it! and it is universally panned for its drabness.

(though season ticket holders, all told paid, for almost half.)

Truly a barbecue related company should sponsor the thing. Weber, Kingsford, you get the picture. It really does look like a grill.

When we had solar panels installed at our previous home, we felt like oddballs as we were the only house in the neighborhood with PV.
Texas has a decent amount of solar, but this state will be a solar mecca once the fossil fools go the way of the...well, you know.

Okay, so we went to the ultimate snark area, the anonymous depths of twitter, to find "fan reaction." Twitter has morphed into a sounding board for snarking quips on any effort or matter, and if that is the source of fan reaction, it sure seems likely an existing but poorly representative sampling. Who would go on twitter (about any development) and say "I just want to tell everyone how much I like and admire [X].". That is not what people tweet about.
   21. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: June 26, 2020 at 01:55 PM (#5959670)
My biggest Twitter pet peeves is the "give me your hottest take on movies/music/books whatever" and it's always people crapping on popular things instead of actual hot takes like "Nickelback is actually good".

"Nickelback is actually good".
Give it time - I’m sure Tarantino will get there eventually.

According to the American Health Rankings org website, Texas is 22nd in the country in states' ranking of percent of water being fluoridated, and is higher than the national average. Last is Hawaii, and second to last is New Jersey.

I guess you need to know also that the greatest amount of alternate energy (wind; solar; hydro) produced in any state in the United States is in Texas.

Stop the southern hatred.

I grew up in Texas, about 35 miles from this new $1 billion commercial chicken barn. Please do not stop the southern, specifically Texas, most specifically North Central Texas hatred. Thank you.

There's a lot less incentive to make it look nice if it is going to be gone in 25 years anyway. How about a colossal Nissen hut?

Fun fact: Saudia Arabia imports millions of tons of sand every year, including from Scotland.
