Boston was also the first team in the NBA to have a black player, the first team in the NBA to put out an all black lineup, the first team in the NBA to have a black coach. The Bruins were the first team in the NHL to have a black player.

#2 Thanks for the link. Been quite a few years since I read Russel's autobiography but I do recall him not enjoying much of the time he spent in Boston.

How about we just ban any fans shouting slurs and epithets of any kind at the players? Immediate ejection. I see no reason why calling the player's mom a whore is any better than a racial slur.

I believe policies like that are already on the books, so all it would take is a re-emphasis on enforcement.

I'm fine with that, as long as "You suck!" or creative taunting about their skill level/performance is still okay.

I'm OK with this but only if the fan shouting "you suck!" or any other insult, says it directly to the player within 5 feet of them - assuming a non-COVID world. I'd love to watch them get their ass whooped, or s*** their pants.

Creative or witty taunting on the other hand is to be celebrated. The best ones are the ones the players hear and can't even keep a straight face.

Yeah, comments about play should be fine.
