Tyler O'Neill with his second of the game to make it 2-0.
   202. salvomania Posted: October 01, 2021 at 09:55 PM (#6042924)
Arenado, Goldschmidt, and O'Neill now each have 34 homers.

This century only four Cardinals have hit more in a season: Pujols (9 times), Edmonds (3 times), Ryan Ludwick (once), and Matt Carpenter (once).
   204. cardsfanboy Posted: October 01, 2021 at 10:09 PM (#6042928)
damn, blast by the Cubs to make it 3-2. Nearly unhittable pitch to be honest and Trayce Thompson crushed it.
   205. cardsfanboy Posted: October 01, 2021 at 10:13 PM (#6042929)
O'Neill could only muster a double off the wall in his third at bat this game.
   206. cardsfanboy Posted: October 01, 2021 at 10:21 PM (#6042932)
they are doing a replay review one of the stupidest things to do a review on. Whether or not the guys foot came off the base for a milisecond while sliding and being tagged.

I hate that use of replay.

If you'd told me at the beginning of the season the Red Sox would win 90 games, I would've said no effing way...but alas, here we are. And right in the middle of all the fun.

AL WILDCARDS
NYY 91-69 +1 (L)
BOS 90-70 -- (W)

SEA 89-70 -- vs LAA
TOR 89-71 1 (W)

NYY and BOS games ended seconds apart. good to be in a market where I could watch both simultaneously without a special package.

meanwhile, am flying all day on Sunday, cross-country (bonus points for a connection, sigh) - roughly from 10 am to 6 pm ET. I chose poorly.

what's the latest on in-flight options? do I need to buy something in advance to get access to NFL Red Zone and MLB Network?

KC has 11 runs tonight. But no homers for Salvy

The Angels giveth a run, then taketh two against the Mariners. That park hasn't been this loud since Ichiro left town.

The Red Sox real secret to beating the Nats today was issuing Soto 4! BB. Got him to K once, but I'm thinking that was a fluke.
   212. The Duke Posted: October 01, 2021 at 11:54 PM (#6042948)
So it looks like cards get LAD in play-in game. If cards win that do they get giants ? And then winner of Braves-brewers?

   213. and Posted: October 02, 2021 at 07:06 AM (#6042954)
So we need Toronto and Seattle to win out, the yanks to lose out and Boston to go 1-1. Not an unreasonable ask.
   214. TomH Posted: October 02, 2021 at 08:18 AM (#6042957)
Yes, the winner of STL-LA gets SF. Unless the last 5 games of Sat-Sun-Mon all go LA's way and then its Stl-SF

Q: Which team has the best record over the last 50 games?
A: (without checking every team, I feel certain it is the) Dodgers, 39-11. Giants 37-13, Cards 35-15. That is a LOT of NL teams en feugo.
   215. TomH Posted: October 02, 2021 at 08:27 AM (#6042959)
Playing NL pennant odds here

ATL-MIL I put the Brewers as 55% favorites
STL-LA single game, 60% for LA
STL-SF 62% for SF
LA-SF 58% LA

ATL/MIL winner vs NL West (likely) winner; NL West favored

final total
ATL:: .45*.41 = .18
MIL:: .55*.47 = .26
STL .4*.38*.52 = .08
LA .6*.58*.64 = .23 (slight bump since they COULD still win the division; .25)
SF::: .62*.57 = .35 (slight dip since they COULD still lose the division; .33)

@214: and only one of those three hot teams and one of the 100 win teams can make the lcs.

The Rays SS Wander Franco has 55 hits and only 48 swing-and-misses over the last 43 games. Bleeping unbelievable.

The Dodgers have gone 37-13. And LOST ground.

So long as Seattle wins tonight, a four way tie will be possible on the last day of the season.

Red Sox have a perfect game through five innings, but lift the starter (Houck), probably in part because his season-high for IP is 5 1/3.

Mass Chaos would have been more likely with a Boston loss. But it's still reasonably probable, pending the Mariners game tonight. Red Sox and Yankees could both lose and the Blue Jays and Mariners win. Or at least it would be probable that one of the NYY/BOS will lose and one of SEA/TOR will win, which would guarantee us a one game playoff to get into the one game playoff.

Urias with number 20 tonight (if things hold up ) and the Dodgers take out Burnes. Urias may now get serious Cy votes as scherzer has faded. I think it’s wheeler, Burnes, scherzer, Urias, gausmann but it’s Really close. 10 good pitchers all have a claim to a vote

Jared Walsh belts a 3-run no-doubter to give the Angels a 4-3 lead over the Mariners in the top of the 8th. Season's on the line!

#227:

Rich Hill holds the record for most perfect innings pitched to start a game and not finish it: 7.0

He got lifted by Dave Roberts while pitching for the Dodgers on September 10, 2016.
   241. Snowboy Posted: October 03, 2021 at 12:16 AM (#6043174)
Sticking with Sewald was a clear mistake, even in the moment.
Forget how good he's been, forget that he's now the 4th Mariner reliever with 100K in a season.
He didn't have his A game, and against Jared Walsh you have to have an A game.
3 run homer gives up the Mariners lead.
   242. Howie Menckel Posted: October 03, 2021 at 12:20 AM (#6043177)
Mets careers of M's pitchers tonight with season on the line:

Flexen 2017-19 - 3-11, 8.07 ERA in 68 IP
Sewald 2017-20 - 1-14, 5.50 ERA in 147 IP

4-25 combined, yet a combined 23-9 this year in Seattle.

clearly their one-year Deals with the Devil each expired on Sept. 30 - NOT the end of the regular season. they'll rue their lawyers' mistakes for all of eternity....

Coming into this game
Walsh vs. lefties: 167/.206/.339 in 189 PAs
Walsh vs. righties: .329/.401/.577 in 343 PAs

He should never have been allowed to see a right-handed pitcher in that spot.

Fortunately for the Mariners, they're playing the Angels.

HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

What in the everloving #### are you talking about? The Pujols one is live and accepting comments. The Renfroe one is still live and accepting comments, but since it was originally posted 3 weeks ago and interest in hijacking it for a pity party has waned it's not right at your fingertips on Hot Topics. Neither is literally nor figuratively gone.

If you want an explanation (or at least my best guess) about the original thread, go find the Renfroe thread. In the meantime, it didn't appear that Jim or anyone else nuked a damn thing, and if you want to make counterfactual statements and unfounded accusations of tyranny at least keep it to the Pujols thread where people love to respond to that kind of thing. Y'all are impossible.

It’s a shame Dodgers will go out in one game
