Martinez got hurt somehow.
   302. John DiFool2 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:19 PM (#6043311)
The way the Red Sox are hitting I’m not sure it matters if they play 163 or the WC game.

The 2nd half lines of Boegarts, Devers, and Martinez are all ugly in their own unique ways. Devers has only slugged .420 over the last two months. Xander equaled that for July & August. JD's home run totals for all months after April 30th are 3/4/4/4/4, tho he still somehow slugged .474 over that span.
   303. JustDan Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:23 PM (#6043313)
Left ankle injury for JD Martinez. They tried to sweat it out for a couple of innings but then PH for him.
   304. JJ1986 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:30 PM (#6043318)
Loaisiga abused Nelson Cruz.
   305. The Duke Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:33 PM (#6043319)
So lemarhieux, kershaw, muncy and Martinez all get hurt at the end. Wow

Well, good thing they left him out there to chase down Avila's 2-run double.
   307. JustDan Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:42 PM (#6043321)
Yeah, that didn’t help.

Nifty play by JP Crawford. But the Mariners need to get the bats going
   308. The Duke Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:47 PM (#6043322)
Padres making a last gasp effort to close the gap
   309. The Duke Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:48 PM (#6043323)
And that’s it. No rally
   310. JJ1986 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:49 PM (#6043324)
Come on, Nats.
   311. JustDan Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:49 PM (#6043325)
First final today- Braves beat Mets 5-0
   312. The Duke Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:52 PM (#6043326)
Did Turner do enough to win MVP today ? Maybe
   313. JustDan Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:53 PM (#6043327)
Ugh
   314. The Duke Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:53 PM (#6043328)
Boston ties it up. Hmmm
   315. The Gary DiSarcina Fan Club (JAHV) Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:54 PM (#6043329)
Come on, Nationals. You've got to be better than that.
   316. Hombre Brotani Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:54 PM (#6043330)
Boston ties it up. Ooooh boy.
   317. JustDan Posted: October 03, 2021 at 05:56 PM (#6043331)
The Nats bullpen is very very bad. No sense trying to fix it when you’re not going to the playoffs
   318. JustDan Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:03 PM (#6043334)
The Giants win the division!!!

Ryan Zimmerman getting a really nice standing ovation from the home crowd in what everyone assumes will be his final plate appearance.
   320. Hombre Brotani Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:05 PM (#6043336)
Mariners load the bases, down 7-2, just one out, 6th inning.
   321. JJ1986 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:06 PM (#6043337)
Yankees about to win.
   322. The Gary DiSarcina Fan Club (JAHV) Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:07 PM (#6043338)
Things were looking good a bit ago, but the Yankees have 1st and 3rd, Boston tied it up, the Giants won...ugh. This is turning ill.
   323. Hombre Brotani Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:07 PM (#6043339)
Ugh. Easy double-play ball to David Fletcher, and he just flubs the flip to second base. Mariners get one back.
   324. Rally Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:08 PM (#6043340)
Winning 12-3 might not be enough for Jays. Yanks have winning run on 3B with one out, Red Sox tied vs Nats
   325. JustDan Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:12 PM (#6043341)
Well, Yanks are in
   326. Hombre Brotani Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:13 PM (#6043342)
As per usual, the Yankees ruin everything.
   327. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:19 PM (#6043343)
Baseball is so much less interesting when it comes down to Yankees/Red Sox over and over.
   328. JJ1986 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:28 PM (#6043346)
Now Jordy Mercer bobbles an easy one.
   329. The Gary DiSarcina Fan Club (JAHV) Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:29 PM (#6043347)
Mercer has money on the Red Sox - boots a routine grounder to put the leadoff man on in DC.
   330. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:31 PM (#6043348)
2nd Wildcard threesome is still possible, but depends on shaky Nationals bullpen holding off the Red Sox. Iffy.
   331. JJ1986 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:32 PM (#6043349)
Dbacks beat the Rockies leaving only two games left.
   332. The Gary DiSarcina Fan Club (JAHV) Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:35 PM (#6043350)
Damn it.
   333. JJ1986 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:35 PM (#6043351)
####### Nationals.
   334. John DiFool2 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:37 PM (#6043353)
Nice time for Raffy to find his power swings there. Pbpbpbpbpb...

Devers goes BOOM, Sox up 7-5. Soon to be wobbly pen, hold on time...
   336. The Gary DiSarcina Fan Club (JAHV) Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:37 PM (#6043355)
Up 5-1 in the 6th, now down 7-5. Thanks for one more piece of evidence that you're bad, Nats.
   337. John DiFool2 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:40 PM (#6043358)
Can't tell if these people here are disgruntled Nats fans or Sawx Haters...
   338. JustDan Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:45 PM (#6043359)
Nats bullpen ERA since the all-star game is well over 6.

Nats fan here, but not disgruntled. Just a realist.
   339. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:46 PM (#6043360)
I'd say Sawx haters, IIRC JAHV is an Angels fan and Walks clogging guy is a Cubs fan, but I could be misremembering.

IF you'd said told me at the beginning of the season the Sox would be 3 outs away from hosting the WC game, I would have said, did it only take 83 wins to get that?

The people who root for either the Sox or the Yanks think they know how much the rest of us hate watching Sox-Yanks. Y'all underestimate how putrid this match-up is for the rest of us, and how much we hate y'all for it. Yes, I speak for everyone.
   341. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:47 PM (#6043362)
I just find it a completely uninspired slog of a matchup at this point. That's all.
   342. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:49 PM (#6043363)
I'm mostly just salty because we went into the day with a realistic shot of seeing some real craziness and in the end, it's just more of the same.
   343. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:51 PM (#6043364)
and of course Soto is last man up.
   344. John DiFool2 Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:52 PM (#6043365)
#340: actually I don't blame you all for that, specifically. If I kept seeing say the Dodgers vs. the Giants every year, yeah I'd get sick of that too.
   345. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:52 PM (#6043366)
Whoa, uncle charlie gets Soto looking!
   346. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:53 PM (#6043367)
92 wins. Holy smoke, never would've believed that.
   347. jacksone (AKA It's OK...) Posted: October 03, 2021 at 06:59 PM (#6043371)
anyone else think the Rays were sorta dicks for not cushioning Urshela at all as he went into their dugout? I know there's a fine line between helping someone and hindering their catch, but one guy could have at least attempted to slow him down.

I echo this sentiment, although I will omit the "y'all's."

I am, admittedly, a Yankees and Red Sox hater. I hate the Yankees on principle, but the Red Sox got on my last nerve during the 2000's when they started having success in the playoffs, a lot of it against the Angels (and there's always '86). I've been to dozens of Angels-Red Sox games at Anaheim Stadium, and their fans are always the most obnoxious and belligerent. So it's not just random or jealous - it's a well-earned hatred.

But putting aside my Angels fandom and as a baseball fan, that matchup has been shoved down our throats for years and years, and I'm tired of it. There's no more interest there for me.

Edit: And the chaos would have been a lot of fun.

It's just one game, though, right?

Be grateful that it's not an entire playoff series, or even worse, the ALCS.

That's two games too many.

Lost in all the playoff hoopla was Josh VanMeter‘s walkoff HR for the D-Backs. That win gives Baltimore the #1 pick in next year’s draft, and a larger $$$ pool. When that ball cleared the fence Oriole fans were cheering like they’d gotten into the postseason.
   352. rr: over-entitled starf@ck3r Posted: October 03, 2021 at 07:30 PM (#6043383)
I am not down on NYY/BOS as the WC game. I find the historical aspects of the rivalry to be pretty interesting, and I either listen to games on the radio or watch muted telecasts so that kind of helps to avoid the throat-shoving aspect. I have had annoying ballpark experiences with visiting fans of LAD, SF, CHC, STL, NYY, NYM, and BOS, so I do get that part.

But the teams are pretty good and very even, so I will check it out. I am however bummed that Toronto and their killer core of hitters are not in postseason. I think they are probably the second-best team in the AL and the one that I personally enjoy watching the most.

If the Dodgers win the WC game, I would have the same view of a LAD/SF Division Series as I do of NYY/BOS WC. I am kind of sick of both teams, but it will be some good baseball with an interesting context.
   353. The Duke Posted: October 03, 2021 at 07:30 PM (#6043384)
Yanks and Red Sox in a Texas cage match. As it should be

Dodgers probably lost Muncy which means we might see Pujols against Cards in game 163 - maybe his last game ever

How cool is that: Waino, Molina and pujols

Blah, blah, blah. Instead of hating on 2 teams that manage to have continued success maybe you should direct your negativity on your own team's owner for not hiring Friedman, Bloom, Zaidi or any of the actual innovative GMs(or whatever their titles are now) to run your team. Every team receives more then enough cash to spend on players, some choose not to...and some of those are still good!

Sure, I'd love for the Sox to win it all this year, but it would be super cool to see the Rays or Brewers take it out also.

Haha. Indeed. Hating the Red Sox and the Yankees while also being sick of Arte Moreno is probably not a challenge for LAA fans.

Fair call.

Of course I want to see the Yanks to break out of their longstanding postseason miseries,** but if I had to pick a team to beat the NL's best, I'd go with the Rays.

** 11 years without a championship is the equivalent of about 80 years for most teams. Suffering is relative. (smile)

Not that it would matter to a normal person, but why did Judge get a hit. Shouldn't it have been a Fielder's choice?

I've seen it scored this way before. I suppose the logic is that if if they don't retire the batter because doing so would concede the winning run, it has to be scored a hit.

Joey Gallo: I realize there are 100s of ways you could make crazy stat combos with his ##s, but here is one I observe:

2021 rank in AL
strikeouts - most 213
batting AVG - last .199
walks - first 111
home runs - tied for 10th with 38

   366. TomH Posted: October 04, 2021 at 08:55 AM (#6043468)
most comparable season I see is Adam Dunn, 2012
2012 rank in AL
strikeouts - most
batting AVG - 2nd to last
walks - first
home runs - 5th
   367. Mefisto Posted: October 04, 2021 at 10:47 AM (#6043491)
Dodgers 2020, full season: 43-17
Dodgers 2021, last 60 games: 44-16
Giants 2021, last 60 games: 43-17

Spot on again. Moreno is an idiot. He can't sell the team too soon for my tastes (there are no reports that this is even an option).

The Yankees and Red Sox can go right to hell with him.
