Without Mike Trout, who’s out for 6-8 weeks with a calf strain. Might be missed.

Karma for the Pujols DFA. It’s the babe Ruth jinx all over again

I know no one cares about my fantasy team, but these are guys currently on my team:

IL Fernando Tatis
IL Byron Buxton
IL Brandon Nimmo
IL Carson Kelly
IL Ke-Bryan Hayes
IL Ty France
IL Jacob de Grom
IL Huascar Ynoa

Our league only allows 6 guys on the IL at one time, so I'm carrying two of those guys on my active roster.

I also cut Travis d'Arnaud (IL) because I couldn't afford to have three of my 5 bench players be on the IL. Suffice to say, I'm not one of the top teams right now.

Arenando with his fourth homerun in four straight games.

You know what's ironic? Calves don't have calves.

I wonder whether the Mets would want Gregory Polanco. He’s 25% of the Pirates payroll and while he isn’t great, he’s better than quad A crapola
   9. Walt Davis Posted: May 18, 2021 at 09:07 PM (#6019519)
All of you who hate the 2021 game, rush right over to Cubs-Nats. Nearly halfway through, only 3 Ks, no XBH, 3 GIDP, even two sac bunts. It's 1975 all over again!!

And to top it all off, the Nats are batting Corbin 8th (haven't seen that in a while) so you still have something to be offended by.

(Better hurry, Zach Davies is on the ropes.)

Mets outfielders available:

I didn't realize we'd reached the point where actual OOTP simulated players were allowed -- or is it just naming them?

EDIT: Bummer, IF Jaqen H'ghar (3 career G) appears to be an odd typo (or joke I don't get) for Jake Hager. However Johneshwy Fargas is real.
   11. The Duke Posted: May 18, 2021 at 09:42 PM (#6019528)
Given what we are seeing from the White Sox, they will be a juggernaut in 2022 when everyone gets back. They are really good this year with several stars out.
   12. Hombre Brotani Posted: May 18, 2021 at 10:06 PM (#6019532)
Angels yield five runs in the first, Ohtani hits another no-doubter homer. He's worth the price of admission, the rest of his team isn't worth anything at all.

Seems like you are a certified jinx, who could probably make good money promising not to take a team’s players for your fantasy team, although that might constitute extortion in some jurisdictions.

Mets outfielders available:
I thought the large-market Mets had a super-rich owner, but they only spent $1.00 on replacement outfielder Cameron Maybin. Maybin was quite useful in his stint with the injury-plagued 2019 Yankees, but that’s about it recently.
   15. Walt Davis Posted: May 18, 2021 at 10:20 PM (#6019540)
Oh well, you guys had your chance on Cubs-Nats. Now 2 HRs and the relievers have K'd 6 in 3 innings.

IL Fernando Tatis

His BBs count, do they ?!
   17. The Duke Posted: May 18, 2021 at 10:33 PM (#6019544)
Those Milwaukee Starters are amazing. If they stay healthy and get a few bats back, they will run away with the division. But they can’t hit right now

Snell has K'd 8 through 3 innings. What's up 2021. Given that he's Blake Snell, I expect him to pitch another 2/3rds of an innings, but it would be awesome in a horrific sort of way if kept up this pace through nine.
   26. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: May 18, 2021 at 11:21 PM (#6019555)
Never saw that before. Batter tossed with 2-2 count w 2 outs in 9th. Vogelback comes in and promptly whiffs, game over.
   27. The Duke Posted: May 18, 2021 at 11:50 PM (#6019562)
Yeah, he had it coming. You can’t argue balls and strikes so demonstratively. Counsell couldn’t even get energized over it
   28. The Duke Posted: May 18, 2021 at 11:51 PM (#6019563)
If someone pricks Vogelbach with a pin will all the air come out ?
   29. Ziggy: social distancing since 1980 Posted: May 18, 2021 at 11:54 PM (#6019565)
Snell has fallen off the pace. Wimp has got only 11 K's through five innings.
   30. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: May 19, 2021 at 12:46 AM (#6019569)
Pujols on the other hand continues his 1 RBI per game pace with the Dodgers. Today he got hit with the bases loaded.
   31. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 19, 2021 at 12:47 AM (#6019570)
I know no one cares about my fantasy team, but
Spencer Turnbull has a no-hitter going through 8 innings…on my bench.
   32. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 19, 2021 at 12:57 AM (#6019571)
And Turnbull does it! He’s thrown this week’s first no-hitter!!
   33. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 19, 2021 at 01:53 AM (#6019574)
What the heck is a Spencer Turnbull and how did it throw a no-hitter? This getting ridiculous. I know BA doesn't mean much, but geez, if league BA gets below .230 the game will simply be unwatchable.
   34. salvomania Posted: May 19, 2021 at 08:49 AM (#6019585)
What the heck is a Spencer Turnbull and how did it throw a no-hitter?

Turnbull is very Nolan Ryan-esque.

His cumulative career totals, 51 starts in now his fourth season, are quite similar to an early-'80s Ryan:

Turnbull, career (ip, K, bb, ERA+)
255.2 243 100 107

Nolan Ryan, 1982
250.1 245 109 105

And now he has one no-hitter. So far.
   35. TomH Posted: May 19, 2021 at 08:56 AM (#6019586)
quick mathy post about no-hitters and league BA
---
assumptions
1) if SP has no-hitter in progress, SP finishes game
2) no hot vs cold; everything is random
--
if league BA is .235, a no-hitter comes at probability .765^27 = .000723, once per 1384 games, or an average of 3.5 per full season of 162*30 games.
if league BA is a more normal .260, a no-hitter comes only on average of 1.4 per full season; so there are 2 and a half times as many in the low-avg scenario above

but that assumes all arms are the same.
what if we divided games into thirds; in one third of pitchers-in-park-conditions-versus-opponent games, batting is .035 points below avg; one-third normal, and one-third .035 points above avg.
then, instead of once per 1384 games for all games, we have
1/3rd - once per 414 games (where hitters avg is .200)
1/3rd - once per 1384 games (.235)
1/3rd - once per 4901 games (.270)
This yields an avg of 5.4 no-hitters per full season; most of them (3.9) by the top-third group.

If you could find 4 pitchers to make 32 starts in a year and each hold hitters to a .164 avg... ONE of just those four would be expected to throw a no-hitter
