Former Angels all-star exposes Angels in hilarious Twitter rant

The Tweets all started with Wilson exposing the fact that the Angels refused to spend money on a special treadmill for Albert Pujols because it was too expensive. The Angels spent $240 million to bring Pujols in for a decade, but deemed that a treadmill would be where they stopped spending.

Continuing on with Arte Moreno’s cheapness, really? No breakfast at Spring Training for two weeks in 2012? No weight room? How do you expect your players to be in the best condition possible to perform for six months and win the World Series if you don’t give them resources?

Often players had to settle for Chick-fil-A for breakfast instead of a meal that might be more nutritious.

In the current day, hitters watch video a lot to help them against certain pitchers they haven’t seen before. Teams all around MLB do it, but the Angels didn’t care about telling their players to watch video per Wilson because “Vladdy never watched video and he raked.”

Pretty funny stuff and a perfect fit for how we all view the Angels

Imagine how good Ohtani will be when he joins a good organization...

Chick-fil-A not a good breakfast?

One place I worked at was terrible on these sorts of things. Not that any of us were million-dollar employees much less Albert Pujols. But convincing them to pay a $50,000 software license was impossible so we'd spend $200,000 writing our own code which nobody would ever bother to update and would no longer be supported once the one person who knew how it worked left.

Moreno is a cheap bastard, and of course the Angels would have been wiser on many levels to buy the damned treadmill.

But if Pujols seriously thought that special treadmill would make him a healthier and thus better player, and he didn't settle for buying it himself out of spite for Moreno being such a cheap bastard - well, talk about "cutting off your nose to spite your face."

$70K machine. Moreno rented instead of buying it.

Where are you getting that Pujols didn't buy it himself?

70k? Does the machine walk for you?

CJ Wilson's twitter feed is also full of racism and Bitcoin pandering. Nope.

Chick-fil-A the best breakfast multimillionaires could manage to arrange for themselves?

Remember there are many players who are not multi-millionaires in spring training - namely all the minor leaguers and any player with under 3 years service time. The Angels clearly are penny wise, pound foolish as the old saying goes. Kind of the mirror universe version of the Rays who won't spend millions but do every little thing right to build up players.

For example, the Jays spent a fortune setting up a high performance health setup in their spring training home, and have had a healthy pitching staff for the most part (yeah, Manoah sucked this year, but Ryu came back quicker than expected and more effective, while the rest of the staff has been amazingly healthy vs the ER that the Angels staff has been living in). The Jays have 2 pitchers on the IL - Cimber, a reliever who was having a poor year, and poor Hagan Danner who hurt his arm facing his second batter in the majors (glad he got the first guy out). The Angels have 5 on the 60 day IL right now plus Ohtani and have 9 guys with 5+ starts vs the Jays 5 with 5+ starts (plus Ryu who will be there in a few days and Richards had 3 starts - that's it for starting pitchers there). Mix in 5 regular hitters on the IL (plus 3 more) again, ignoring Ohtani (still hitting). How many millions did the Angels waste due to poor health this year? Jays have 0 hitters on the IL (Varsho gave us a scare today though with a poor slide into 2B).

Now, both teams might be out of the playoffs this year, but the Jays isn't due to health (horrid RISP hitting), while the Angels will be due to health (Trout, Rendon, Ohtani pitching, Urshela, etc.)

The Blue Jays having a "healthy" pitching staff this year can probably be chalked up mostly to luck. Luck that will probably not repeat next year.

McCoy - normally I'd agree with you on that - but the Jays made a point of building up a method and if you watch their games you'd see guys pulled fast when any sign of an injury is there. Basically they are doing everything to keep starters healthy - imo they use relievers too often on 0 days rest though. We'll see in 2024 I'm sure but if they get through that year fairly clean, then people will say 'dumb luck twice, lets see them do it a third time'.

If anyone ever figured out how the White Sox had a strong run of healthy starters, I've never heard an explanation. The 11-year stretch from 2005–2015—all with pitching coach Dan Cooper and nearly the entire managerial tenures of Ozzie Guillen and Robin Ventura—saw their top 4 starters across those seasons start 76% of the team's games.

Pitchers have been getting injured since baseball was invented. It's possible the BJ are currently the best at reducing injury risk and have assembled a staff that is mire resilient to injuries. But luck is a beast and forever is a long time.

And less homophobic.
