Former Angels employee Eric Kay charged with distributing fentanyl in Tyler Skaggs case

Former Angels employee Eric Kay has been charged by federal authorities in Texas with distributing fentanyl in connection with the overdose death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs, according to court documents reviewed by the Los Angeles Times.

An affidavit in support of the criminal complaint against Kay filed in U.S. District Court in Fort Worth said the longtime member of the Angels’ media relations department and Skaggs had a “history of narcotic transactions” and that Kay would “distribute these pills to [Skaggs] and others in their place of employment and while they were working.”

Kay voluntarily surrendered to authorities Friday, per court records. The complaint, filed last week, was unsealed Friday, as well.

“distribute these pills to [Skaggs] and others in their place of employment and while they were working.”

Is that a polite way of saying he was dealing to other Angels' staff and maybe players? Or was he taking extended lunch breaks deliverooing drugs around the greater Los Angeles of Anaheim metroplex?

Dumb question: is Fentanyl performance enhancing? Or is it recreational?

OC Register days he's Director of Communications, a 24-year employee. A team statement refers to him as "this Angels executive." From all that I'd guess he was a runner for players, not Walter White.

I knew the godfather of the Fen-phen epidemic. Had Christmas dinner with him. He tried kicking me out of his son's house.

It seems a little bizarre to me that a guy with a very solid job like Kay would just wake up in the morning and decide to get in the dope business. Did he have an expensive divorce or other money problems? Even if Skaggs came to him asking for Oxy or whatever, you’d think he’d just say “No, can’t help you.”

Doesn't dealing often start with using? It may not have been a totally rational career decision.

He himself was a drug user. He may have been financing his own habit by selling to others. That's what happens in a lot of cases.

EDIT: Coke (the beverage, not the controlled substance) to snapper.

Dealers will never learn. Don’t ever sell to someone important. Surest way to get busted.

on a long enough timeline, everyone's survival rate drops to zero.

I mean with a long enough timeline everybody gets caught but lots of dealers quite obviously deal with famous people and don't get caught. I forget exactly who the famous people were but my sister in law dated a dealer to the music stars. He never got caught. I've got a friend who's been dealing for 10 years and he has not been caught.
