So with Presidents and Vice Presidents and Czars of Baseball Operations and the like, this guy's job is really to fetch coffee, right?

San Francisco has a lot of options for coffee, and there are more hills to navigate than in Chicago. Harris will have to earn his money.

I’m with #1. A GM is low on the current totem pole, and as someone who teaches at a University, this layering of upper management is very familiar. And if education is any indicator, I’m not sure overly necessary.

In the sense that they tend to be paid far more than they'd get if they just stayed in the classroom- otherwise.....
