Giants Owner Says Lee Seung-yeop is a Failure

Yes, being held scoreless will do that.

Lee Seung-yeop of Yomiuri has been declining in value as the centerpiece of his team. On October 23, Sankei Sports and other major Japanese sports papers and magazines reported that Yomiuri is seeking to scout Kosuke Fukudome of Chunichi, who will be opting for free agency. This is the second such scouting rumor following Yomiuri’s plans to scout Alex Ramirez of Yakult.

Tsuneo Watanabe, owner of the Yomiuri Giants, plans to reinforce the team by scouting more raw talent after a disappointing season by Lee. During the Central League Championships against Chunichi, Lee had no home runs and was held scoreless. As a result, Yomiuri lost the series three games to none.

...Watanabe openly criticized the foreign players of his team in front of the press.

“With the exception of Warren Cromartie, Karl “Tuffy” Rhodes, and Roberto Petagine, all our foreign players were total failures.” He added, “I plan to sign on new players that can guarantee us victories.”

I hear that Brian Buchanan is available. Mitch Jones hit well below the Mendoza line for Nippon Ham.

Benny Agbayani likely isn't going to leave Chiba.

Tsuneo Watanabe is the Steinbrenner of Japan, except that he is much more of an ass. He has ALWAYS bent the rules as best he can, doing everything he can for his own team and the HELL with other teams. No sense of ethics or morals at all. Just a total jerk, even by baseball owner standards.

Yay--a Tuffy sighting! It's gonna be a good day!

Freedom!

Also, do you suppose he did air quotes when he said "Tuffy"?

I admit, I was wondering what Peter Magowan was up to when I saw the headline.

It must have been the overwhelming welcoming feeling that they received joining the Yomiuri organization that distracted them.

With Petagine, they only need Choi and Durazo to make the spreadsheet trifecta.

I plan to sign on new players that can guarantee us victories.
I'm pretty sure we could get a petition going for Yomiuri to sign Curt Schilling.

Count them out of the A-Rod bidding then.

.274/.322/.501? And he was at .323/.389/.615 the year before?

Yeah, cry me a river.

Doesn't every team plan that?

I hope this isn't considered tampering since the only players that can do that are the Colorado Rockies!

I don't know, but the real question is "Does he like mercury-free sushi?"
