Zack Greinke is heading back to where it all began, as the Royals have agreed to a one-year, $13 million deal with the free-agent right-hander, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Wednesday.
The club has not confirmed the deal, which is pending a physical.
Greinke has been a reliable starter, even as he’s entered his late 30s. The 18-year veteran went 11-6 with a 4.16 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 171 innings for the Astros in 2021 and made three appearances during Houston’s postseason run, including a scoreless four-inning start in Game 4 of the World Series against the Braves.

When Salvy Perez signed his extension, I mentioned how he was the franchise's best chance this generation to go into Cooperstown as a True Royal. But Greinke would have to jump into the lead for that now, wouldn't he?
Greinke and I have to think it's still 50/50 with Beltran if he gets in, although his time with the Astros may keep him out.
It's not a meaningful category or anything, I just think it's nice that after a looooong drought, Royals fans are starting to see some legitimate HOF candidates again.
Royals - 795 games, 24.8 WAR, 1 AS selection
Mets - 839 games, 31.1 WAR, 5 AS selections
I personally think of Beltran as a Met first. He had the ROY with Kansas City, but his top 2 seasons were with the Mets.
Give me a rotation with Greinke, Montas and Carlos Hernandez at the top and I start to get pretty optimistic about this year (at least in comparison to the last 5).
What is Cincy doing? They cut Miley and his $10million, then traded for Minor and his $18million (and lose Garret in the process).
Miley is a year older (35 v 34), but was better last year AND over the past [any number] seasons.
I assumed the Miley cut was the start of their payroll shedding, so what the hell is going on?
