GWSports.com: Strong Pitching By GW Not Enough In 2-0 Loss To No. 1 Virginia

Talk about burying the lede…

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA- The George Washington baseball team held No. 1 Virginia to just two runs on Tuesday evening at Davenport Field but were unable to complement the strong pitching performance at the plate, falling 2-0.

GW (7-18) pitchers Tommy Gately, Kenny O’Brien and Craig Lejeune combined…

Gately got the start for GW and pitched three innings…

Both Virginia runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth…

O’Brien relieved Gately and allowed a bunt single to Kenny Swab to load the bases…

O’Brien worked his way out of a jam after Virginia got a man on third base with no outs in the seventh inning. John Barr led off the inning with a walk, then stole second and advanced to third on an error. A heads-up play by shortstop Justin Albright, in which he made a accurate throw to catcher Jimmy Best on a fielders choice, kept the score at 2-0. LeJeune added a 1-2-3 eighth inning.

The two runs were all the Cavaliers would need as starting pitcher Will Roberts was perfect on the mound, striking out 10 batters en route to the eighth nine-inning perfect game in NCAA Division I (since 1957) history and the first since 2002…

Props for noticing this one to Walewander. Sorry for thunder-stealing.

Our #4 starter! Wahoowa!

I'm taking my dad (also a Cavalier alum) to see UVA/Ga Tech on April 8 for his birthday. Could be a couple of first rounders starting that game. Can't wait!
