Harvey had blood clot in bladder, will start Opening Day - NY Daily News

Let it flow, Matt!

After hours of speculation about his “mysterious” medical condition, Matt Harvey was cleared to pitch Opening Day after passing a “big” blood clot. The Mets ace said that the blood clot developed after a bladder infection, likely because he does not use the restroom often enough.

“I guess the main issue is I hold my urine in for too long instead of peeing regularly, so I guess I have to retrain my bladder to use the restroom a little bit more instead of holding it in,” a tired and pale Harvey said Tuesday morning. “I guess that’s what caused the bladder infection.

That's not the first Harvey I thought of.

It doesn't take a whiz to see that health has to be your #1 priority. If you're in any kind of discomfort, you really gotta go - straight to doctor. Harvey can't really just piss a start away, he needs to go with the flow, even if eventually he needs to be relieved. BTW, was the press conference streamed live?

When I was in college I got a bladder infection. I too wasn't peeing often enough after sleeping with lots of random girls.

That was my first reaction. Nicer way of saying he has a "social" disease.

First Tycho Brahe, now this. Why do all our greatest geniuses refuse to urinate?
   12. Worrierking Posted: March 29, 2016 at 11:42 AM (#5183743)
He should pee on Moises Alou's bat every once in a while. It would make both of them better.
   13. Omineca Greg Posted: March 29, 2016 at 12:22 PM (#5183791)
I don't know why he let get this bad. Matt should have just found a massive 6'8" black man to heal it for him.

It also would have given him the advantage of heightened sexual prowess, and that's always a nice little throw in.

If Matt had a recently departed pet mouse, he could get it raised from the dead, and the two of them, with highly elongated life spans, could happily grow old together. It would really help his career numbers (Matt's, not the mouse's) and although some mean spirited people would suggest he was using PEDs, every time he was tested he would come up clean. He would be breaking all kinds of records...

...until they made a special rule banning pop culture magical realism, which would mean not only Matt, but every player helped by The Witches Of Eastwick (who are probably Red Sox fans, so I'm thinking that's the day Big Papi's numbers come back to Earth), would be out of luck. They could grandfather the new rule in, like the spitter, but I doubt they would. Manfred would consider the issue for a while, but ultimately would do nothing about it. Sure, Matt would feel a little guilty watching him get executed for a crime he (the healer, not Manfred) didn't commit...but watcha gonna do?

With his millions of dollars, his elevated sexual prowess, and his adorable pet mouse, I'm sure he would have no trouble getting feminine companionship, which is ironic because in all likelihood that's how he got into this mess in the first place. Not peeing frequently enough...sure.

Same. Anyone heard how he's doing? I've never met the man (though I would love to do so), but it still feels like a friend is in pain.

Oh no, what happened to Harv?

I'm thinking this could still very much be an STI.

BDC wrote in this Dugout that Harveys had passed away. The family didn't want a tribute on BBTF.

:/

Loved Harv's insights and candidness. Some of the stories he'd tell; he was like the rustic World's Most Interesting Man.

One of my favorite lines was when he closed an epic "rant" with something like, "If this bothers anyone, no apology will be forthcoming."

Total bummer.

I don't know, but the relief at Harvey's making his Sunday start is most palpable in (where else) Flushing...

Aww nuts, that's too bad. He was a heck of a raconteur these past many years. We'll be poorer for not having him. :(

I too will miss Harvey tremendously. He seemed like a real genuine sort of person and a fun guy. Our world was enriched when he was around.
Rest in peace Harvs.

Any time an outfielder misplays a ball this year, I'll imagine it looked like Gorman Thomas trying to castrate a bull.

Nicer way of saying he has a "social" disease.

I was a face in a magazine,
When you were still playin' with your plasticine,
Now you're doggin' my tail, ridin' the slipstream,
You can take the fans and the enemies
The little girls who squeeze and tease
Then pass on their social disease,
Go get your penicillin.

Ditto #21 and #22. I am saddened by this news.

Curious how things work: I was just thinking about Harveys yesterday when I grilled up a couple hot dogs on my nicely seasoned cast iron skillet to get in baseball form with Opening Day approaching. Harveys just seemed like a cast iron kind of guy: old, smart, and durable.

Guess I, and others apparently, don't check in as often in the off-season. Harveys Wallbangers seemed like a good dude, through his posts. Condolences to his family and friends. Geez that stinks. I'll miss his wisdom and good attitude.
Thanks for sponsoring that page, villageidiom. Nice touch.

Harvey pitched 2 innings against the Nationals today, giving up 3 earned runs - a piss poor performance.

Tex Avery (animation director at Warner Brothers and MGM) apparently had this habit also (it didn’t help that the WB animation building, known as Termite Terrace, did not have facilities). According to the story, he waited so long one time that his sphincter muscle locked up and he had to go to the hospital and have a catheter inserted to drain the bladder. If the story is true, he was lucky not to suffer a burst bladder.

Harvey: Stop nagging me. I'm gonna go after this inning, I promise.

D'Arnaud: Dude, I just want you to throw a fastball.
