Triston Casas BOS
Jeter Downs BOS (not really a big name by that point)
Brett Baty NYM
Spencer Torkelson DET
Brendan Donovan STL
Nolan Gorman STL
Lars Nootbar STL
Juan Yepez STL
Lots of others made the majors this year. Naturally the only 4 that have done well are the 4 Cardinals, no wonder it seems like a big indicator to you. :-)
Over on the pitching side ... no surprises
Jordan Hicks STL
Andre Pallante STL
Zack Thompson STL
Jake Walsh STL
Roansy Contreras PIT
McKenzie Gore SDP now WSN
Caleb Kilian CHC
That's right, the Cards had 7 significant 2022 contributors at the AFL last year (Walsh hasn't contributed much but did make the show). Note, for pitchers, the max is usually around 20 IP; for the batters, 100-125 PA. In terms of "success," it's probably more about displaying good scouty stuff against tougher competition rather than slash lines but a good slash line never hurts.
it's a case-by-case basis.
Way to not only bury the lede but to keep it behind the curtain ... that's a pitcher named Tink Hence. Naturally Hence is in the Cards' organization so I assume he will win RoY next year.
He's a 2020 draftee out of HS so didn't get any pro experience then and just 8 IP last year (I don't think he was hurt I think that's just how rookie ball works these days). This year he's taken a regular 6-day turn of 3-4 innings since mid-May. He might get only something like 10-12 innings in the AFL. But going to the AFL after his age 19 season (he turned 20 a month ago) suggests the Cards think he's got something.
