Historical league names return to the Minors

Everything old is new again, as on Wednesday Minor League Baseball announced that all 11 of its individual leagues will revert back to their historical names.

Prior to the 2021 season, following a larger restructuring of Minor League Baseball, these leagues were rechristened with names that simply denoted classification and region (Triple-A East, Triple-A West, etc.). This occurred because Major League Baseball was still in the process of acquiring the rights to the historical names, an endeavor that is now complete. Ten of the leagues will resume usage of a pre-existing logo, while the Triple-A Pacific Coast League is debuting a new mark. One other small change: While Triple-A, Double-A and High-A classifications carry over from 2021, Low-A has been reclassified as Single-A.

I didn't realize that the reason they stopped using them was because of TM issues. But it's good that they're back.

Now if only I could stop confusing the Pioneer and Frontier Leagues (neither of which are affiliated leagues but still).

I have a similar confusion with two Topps baseball card brands - Heritage and Archives.

one of them is a set with all of the cards in the same format as a set from 50 years earlier.
the other one features cards with formats from a minimum of three different decades, and includes far more Hall of Famers of bygone eras.

both are nostalgia plays - just don't ask me which is which!

TIL there is a real-life professional baseball team in the U.S. named the Rocket City Trash Pandas.

I'm not usually a fan of intentionally quirky team names, but this one is so over-the-top that I kinda love it.

Ah, now that one I know, just because Heritage has been around for so long, and didn't actually know Archives was a thing until I bought a box last month.
