How Athletics Tried to Convince Michael Jordan to Join MLB Roster in 1994

The 94 A’s had a bunch of big names but were pretty bad, had been bad in 93 and would be bad in 95, so why not?

Jordan couldn't have been much worse than Fausto Cruz (107/219/107) or Ernie Young (067/097/100 and a terrifying minus-47 OPS+)...

Jordan's #### worked in the playoffs.

But there were no playoffs that year!

Ernie kept improving and posted a 200 OPS+ a decade later.

anyone else ever improve 247 OPS+ points between the rookie season and their final season?

impressive!

Isn’t Alderson the same guy who signed Tim Tebow for the Mets?

Those A's already (almost) had one former NBA player in Marc Acre...

Gustavo Chacin mocks that 247 OPS+ point improvement.

Yeah the bathrooms at Chicago Stadium were bad, but why would he risk playing in the open sewer of the Coliseum?

Yeah I was trying to figure out who he would have replaced, and it looks like the A's didn't carry a regular fourth outfielder that year, just a rotating series of disasters, so he wouldn't have even displaced somebody

Yeah the bathrooms at Chicago Stadium were bad

that place was a palace compared to the dump that was Boston Garden.

their rats didn't even have the decency to wait til an hour after the game to forage for leftovers under the seats all over the building. no doubt Jordan's "first home" had them, too - but they were a better class of rodent.

and props to Itchy Row for that find!
