Hey, I gotta check in to say I'm at my first ballgame at the BDC Dome. Go Rangers!

Pretty generic place. AC could be stronger. I may have to derive interest from the game itself. If that fails I brought a book, Misty of Chincoteague.

Another day, another chance for Mike Shildt to issue an IBB

Well, that’s disappointing. Hopefully, they’ll do better on the next stadium in a few years.

Chadwick Tromp, if that is in fact his real name, has just homered for the Giants.

Was that before or after Sherlock Holmes discovered he was in fact the guilty party?

I believe new Mets 2B Travis Blankenhorn ultimately confessed to Holmes....

"Skye Bolt" in to pinch-run for the A's? Are you kidding me?
   8. Walt Davis Posted: June 09, 2021 at 06:16 PM (#6023472)
Mr. Bolt actually debuted for the A's in 2019 and apparently had a stint with the Giatns earlier this year. Or maybe he just runs back and forth between SF and Oakland as needed. If he is Usain's long-lost brother then he was very, very lost.
   9. Howie Menckel Posted: June 09, 2021 at 06:52 PM (#6023474)
Skye got a single AB for the Giants in Week 1 after being claimed by the Giants from the A's, got demoted for a month, was sold back to the A's, spent another month in the minors, ironically playing for the Las Vegas Aviators - and now he's back in Oakland.

also - and this is on wiki, so it must be true - "He got his name because his father wanted him to have a name that "popped.""

for some reason, electricity and the atmosphere just 'popped' into my head....

the Diamondbacks were 14-12 when May Day arrived - check that, when May 1 arrived, because it has been "MAY DAY!" ever since for this sorry franchise.

with today's loss, they are now on a 6-30 bender.

wins, date, opponent, score
May 2 vs COL, 8-4
May 10 vs COL, 5-2
May 11 vs MIA, 11-3
May 15 vs WAS, 11-4
May 30 vs STL, 9-2
June 1 vs NYM, 6-5 in 10 IP

they are 0-18 on the road since May 1

there was a 3-inning mopup "save" on May 30, but the only real one in the last 36 games came May 10 (for Crichton)
   11. Howie Menckel Posted: June 09, 2021 at 07:44 PM (#6023478)
sorry, now 0-19 on the road - tough to keep up!
   12. cardsfanboy Posted: June 09, 2021 at 08:22 PM (#6023485)
It would be nice if the Cardinals could go at least one game without allowing a run in the first inning.
   13. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 09, 2021 at 08:25 PM (#6023486)
ALL RISE! Aaron Judge’s solo HR, #15, gives the Yankees a 1-0 lead over the Twins.

Gerrit Cole strikes out Josh Donaldson in a much-hyped PA, at least on the Twins broadcast being carried by Extra Innings.

I'm literally clapping at Carpenters double, something this team needed for about 10 days now, a true clutch hit.
   16. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 09, 2021 at 09:03 PM (#6023491)
Stanton 3-run HR makes it 5-0 Yankees. Maybe the offense is back?
   17. Howie Menckel Posted: June 09, 2021 at 09:20 PM (#6023494)
you might call this an "IN YOUR FACE!" evening for the Mets' Kevin Pillar, who has homered twice tonight vs the hapless Orioles
   18. cardsfanboy Posted: June 09, 2021 at 09:36 PM (#6023498)
At least the Cardinals offense showed up to support the cheating Wainwright... (there is a Cardinals blogger out there proving that the Wainwright is cheating.... I'm sure it's true as I'm pretty much sure every pitcher out there is cheating)
   19. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 09, 2021 at 09:42 PM (#6023500)
Another Stanton HR (also has a double) makes it 7-1 Yankees in 5th. Twins starter still in.

EDIT: Miguel Andujar solo HR also insufficient motivation for Twins pitching change.

MLB has a video up of a woman holding a baby catching a foul ball in San Diego. Definitely worth a look.
   21. The Duke Posted: June 09, 2021 at 10:14 PM (#6023504)
Wainwright having a good game after a rough start. Might make it
Through 7, even 8.

He’s not cheating. His spin rate is up over the last few years but I think most of that is just him returning to good health. He doesn’t beat people with velocity - he beats them by hitting spots and changing speeds. The league has raised the seams on the ball twice which helps him since he throws big curve balls.

Maybe the Yankees should take some of their surplus cash and bribe MLB into letting them play the Twins 162 games a year.

Lance Lynn allows four baserunners vs. the Jays in 7 innings, leaves with a 2-1 lead.

Aaron Bummer then allows four baserunners in a third of an inning, game tied 2-2.

Lance Lynn is one of those guys who seems like he could throw 120 pitches every time out. If I'm managing (note: I am not) I'd have left him in.
   24. The Duke Posted: June 09, 2021 at 11:09 PM (#6023508)
Gotta make these guys last 162 games plus playoffs. Hate to take him out but you have to assume your relief Corps can get outs
   25. The Duke Posted: June 09, 2021 at 11:12 PM (#6023509)
I feel like we are seeing much more hitting all of a sudden. I wonder whether spider - tack has disappeared from the pitching tool kit already. I have to say this is more fun than getting a no hitter every night

The lack of linking is a major character flaw, but here is the video. Let the debate begin between “Played it like a man!” and “Take her children away!”.

I don't know if he is cheating or not, just saw an article with the headline and saw that it was by a St Louis blogger, so figured I would mention it. I hate to accuse anyone without any real evidence, so I was just making a joke.

A few years ago I made a joke that I thought Lance Lynn would be a guy capable of reaching 300 wins, because for the Cardinals he kept putting up 15 wins a year, obviously that stopped and 2020 happened but he's back to who he was before a guy that just doesn't miss a start, pitches relatively deep into games. He's not a hofer, he's not even an all star (one all star appearance in his rookie year) but he's going to be a guy that every team wishes they had. (except maybe the Dodgers) (this year he's probably an all star though)

He's had 7 seasons with 29+ starts, 13 last year(which at least tied for the league lead) he's pitched 10 seasons in mlb(counting this one) and 9 of them he had complete seasons (the other was more or less his September cup of coffee) and he missed a year in 2016.

Before seeing the video, I thought we were talking about a ball rifling directly at the woman at 80-100 MPH. In fact it was just a ball that floated out of the upper deck and took a fortuitous bounce within her reach. It makes for a nice video, but it wasn't like she was Jeffrey Maier, and the baby didn't look to be in any danger at all.

Phil Bickford got his first career save in a totally accidental save opportunity. He pitched the 7th inning with a 2 run lead, retired the side in order, then the rains came down and washed away the last two innings. Game called. Bickford gets the save. Big break for the Dodgers as Jansen was likely unavailable.
