Trea Turner left the Nationals game against the Phillies after singling in the top of the 1st, going 1st-to-3rd on Juan Soto’s single, and trotting home on Josh Bell’s 3-run HR. No apparent sign of injury, and this time of year trades are on everyone’s mind, but I’m skeptical anyone would be offering enough to make trading Turner a good deal for the Nationals.

Maybe Turner just got a bad covid-19 test result. But Turner is FA after next year so a trade isn't impossible. And, holy crap, Turner leads the NL in TB. His SLG's not that impressive but he's 2nd in ABs.

I notice the Rangers have lost 12 straight. I think this is at least the 5th losing streak of 11+ this season (DBacks twice, O's, Cubs). I honestly don't know how many we usually see in a season but that seems like a lot.

MASN now reporting that Turner was removed from the game due to a positive Covid test.

astounding, albeit anonymous comments from Mariners

The vibe on the field before Tuesday’s game was expectedly subdued. The early work from the position players lacked the typical emotion and energy. Many disappeared into the clubhouse immediately.

“An hour ago, it was great,” said one player. “It was probably better than it’s ever been. And now, it’s the worst.”

Multiple pitchers emerged from the clubhouse with tears still in their eyes from saying goodbye to Graveman.

“You should’ve seen it earlier,” said a veteran player about the initial reaction.

Sources said equipment was broken and smashed while one player “went absolutely mad.”

“Betrayed” was a word used often.

“Are you (expletive) kidding me?” said the same player. “It never changes. They don’t care about winning. How do you trade him and say you care about winning? And you trade him to Houston? It never changes.”

Multiple players felt it was disingenuous for Dipoto to trade a team leader like Graveman at such an emotional time without offering some explanation for it in person. They found out from Graveman and social media.

“He hasn’t come down here,” a player said of Dipoto. “He sits up in his suite, playing fantasy baseball and rips apart our team without telling us anything.”

Austin Gomber is better than people think he is.

Rockies rotation includes Gomber (124 ERA+), German Marquez (131), Jon Gray (126), Antonio Senzatela (101) and Kyle Freeland (96). Freeland was hurt at the start of the season and took a while to round into form, but he has a 2.06 ERA in his last six starts.

Nobody notices, in part because it's the only strong element of the team, but the Rockies have a really good starting rotation.

Just a brutal night for the Angels. With Trout and Rendon MIA, they have to be sellers at the deadline. It's a hard pill to swallow, what with Ohtani having such a uniquely magnificent season for them. 50-50 just isn't a contender.

Ohtani did get Gomber, though. He swung through change-ups earlier looking for fastballs, and managed a 463-foot blast on a change left out over the plate. At least I've got Ohtani to watch the rest of the season. Sigh.

The #Yankees traded Luis Cessna and Justin Wilson to the #Reds for a player to be named later.

[I assume that is Cessa. I guess with the addition of Clay Holmes, the Yankees are overstocked with fungible relievers?]

Early game today... no omnichatter... :(

Running on Yadier, works about as well as expected.

Arenado walks, is picked off, ump calls him safe, on replay they call him safe, and the Cardinal announcers are like "he was clearly out, even without the enhanced video, how they can screw that up, is not fathomable"

Omnichatter's up. Sorry, CFB.

Phils/Nats canceled due to COVID-19. 4 players/8 staff for Nats positive. Per Nats, 11/12 are vaccinated. I feel like resurrecting my high school cough “Bullshit”.

But in the current protocols, what could be a better incubator than a sports team?

Conforto throws a 91.3 MPH bullet to nail Almonte, who would have been the tying run at home, in the 9th inning. Mets win, 2-1. It took a perfect throw to get him and Conforto delivered. An all around great game.
