Walt Davis Posted: December 28, 2022 at 08:27 PM (#6111106)I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that the number of GMs who have been nearly constantly employed over that time doesn't extend far beyond DiPoto, Friedman and Cashman, perhaps having quite a bit to do with why they rank so highly. That DiPoto also has a couple of the highest seasons of the last 50+ years is more impressive.
I guess I've never thought about how many trades (incl cash transactions?) a team usually makes during a season. 11 or so per season doesn't seem crazy high when you consider minor-league deals, deadline deals, little rule 5 swaps both in trading (for) a guy about to be rule 5'd and drafting a rule 5 guy then immediately swapping him to another team, out of option deals and any other inconsequential trades I've forgotten. It might be interesting to look at number of trades involving one or more MLers -- I won't be surprised if he's #1 there too but it would be more in line with what the average fan cares about.
