Jon Daniels dismissed by Rangers; Chris Young to run baseball ops

The Rangers on Wednesday announced that Jon Daniels has been relieved of his duties as president of baseball operations, effective immediately. Executive vice president and general manager Chris Young will assume oversight of all aspects of the Rangers’ baseball operations department.

Young was hired in December 2020 to work with Daniels and has been involved in all areas of the department since that time….

Daniels joined the Texas baseball operations department in 2002 and was appointed as the Rangers’ eighth General Manager on October 4, 2005. He was promoted to President of Baseball Operations in March 2013.

Ah, the ole bench coach becomes manager trick, chief

Somewhat surprised in that (a) I'd kinda given up on it ever happening and (b) that he wasn't "promoted" to "special advisor to the CEO" or some such. He's been there a long time so at least a gold watch or something.

Seems to me it's not often that you see manager and GM simultaneously fired. And if you are gonna do that, seems a bit odd to do it not quite simultaneously.

I suppose as long as Young understands that his #1 priority is the air conditioning at the BDC Dome then we're all happy. Best of luck to all concerned.

Thanks, Walt! I am headed out there tonight. If I break a sweat, I will send a strongly worded e-mail to the new interim PoBOp :)

Which Chris Young is this? CF or Pitcher?

Princeton basketball & pitcher Chris Young.

Oh, then he’s not as Young as I thought.

Rangers got pummeled by the A's 7-2 last night, that oughta put a dent in their Pythag :) It was a fun enough game to watch. Ranger reliever Joe Barlow returned from blister woes to load the bases but get out of his one inning unharmed. Cole Ragans started for Texas, pitched OK, but made two costly mistakes, HR balls to Sean Murphy.

I got to see the As' other catcher, Shea Langeliers, hit his first major-league home run. Other guys whose first ML home runs I've seen include Tommy Hutton and Marcus Thames. I don't sense a guarantee of immortality here for Langeliers.
