Jordan Yamamoto dominates Cardinals |

Two starts into his MLB career, and Jordan Yamamoto already is making history.

The 23-year-old from Kailua, Hawaii, turned in his second consecutive outing of seven scoreless innings against the Cardinals, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out seven in the Marlins’ 6-0 victory on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium.

According to, Yamamoto is the first pitcher since at least 1908 to begin his career with consecutive outings of seven-plus innings pitched, no runs and three or fewer hits. Yamamoto’s 14 consecutive scoreless innings are also a record for a Marlins starter to open his career. Josh Beckett held the previous record of 10 innings in 2001.

“I definitely didn’t imagine this,” Yamamoto said. “It’s one of those things a kid can only dream about. It just worked out perfectly in my favor. The defense really backed me up tonight. Hitters have backed me up the past two games. It’s one of those things, it’s easy to pitch when you have the lead, and it’s easy to pitch when you trust everybody on the field.”

That may be, but he's not exactly Karl Spooner, is he?

Marlins must be giddy that he can shut down the same lineup twice in ten days. That bodes very well. And the enigmatic Cardinals continue to sputter with no real direction and huge salaries.

The two biggest culprits are Carpenter, who hasn't yet gotten going in 2019 with 0.6 WAR after a 4.9 WAR 2018, and Goldschmidt, who has a 103 OPS+ and just 0.7 WAR after averaging over 6 WAR the last five years.

That's two projected offensive monsters providing very little.

Yeah, I wouldn't get too used to that, kid.

So why exactly did Yamamoto get the promotion and not Gallen? Not that you can argue with the results, but it's a surprising decision.

These kind of results are going to lead to Yamamoto being expensive in Arbitration three years from now. Jeter better trade him for someone more cost controlled.

They brought Gallen up today.

I think right now a stoned Huston Street, 2 years into retirement, could walk out there and dominate the Cardinals.

Jeter's going to be really upset when he finds out the Marlins don't get a posting fee when they let Yamamoto go this winter.
