Jordan Zimmermann, after 5 tough years in Detroit, signs deal with Brewers

Jordan Zimmermann will try to write another ending to his career after a disappointing five-year tenure with the Detroit Tigers.

The 34-year-old right-hander signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. The deal includes an invitation to spring training.

Zimmermann is a native of Auburndale, Wisc., where he and his family still live. He went to college at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

Nothing sez "disappointing" like "five-year tenure with the Detroit Tigers".

A great Nat, but definitely felt towards the end of his Nats tenure that he was a little bit cooked. Obviously signing Scherzer long term over him was the right decision.

Hope he can bounceback a little in Milwaukee, some bullpen time might be good for him

Cant believe he’s been a tiger for five years.

Cant believe he’s been a tiger for five years.
Neither can Al Avila.

I can't believe he was a Tiger for only five years.

Back in 2013-2014 many of us thought of him as our pitching ace.
When he left in 2015 my pals Nd I thought he was going to succeed enormously in Detroit.
His meh performance was a shocker.
I wish him well in Milwaukee.

I remember being vaguely disappointed that Thed landed on Lester as the big buy, now we’re gonna win ace and not Zimmerman... I was. Not right about that.

for WAS

ERA+s of 120, 136, 116, 141, 101 - all in 161 to 213 IP

arrive in DET, have the pixie dust removed and

ERA+s of 88, 74, 99, 69, 62 - all with IP never reaching 161 IP (thankfully)

career ERA+ now 101, with $110M collected for sucking with the Tigers (80 ERA+) and $33M for succeeding with the Nats (118 ERA+ in twice as many IP)

19.5 WS with Nats, 1.1 with Tigers

I don't remember anybody thinking this was a great deal. In fact, I remember it being roundly panned. But it went about as badly wrong as a deal can possibly go, short of Darren Dreifort.

Talk about a deal gone wrong: my all-time favorite” worst trade ever” was Glenn Davis to the Orioles for Steve Finley, Curt Shilling and Pete Harnish to Houston circa 1991.
