This is a much better option for the Mets. After losing Jacob deGrom to the Rangers in free agency over the weekend, the Mets are reportedly reaching an agreement with another top free-agent arm in Justin Verlander, a source told MLB.com’s Jon Paul Morosi. SNY’s Andy Martino was the first to report the deal. Per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman and others, the contract is for two years and $86 million, with a third-year vesting option.

I wonder if there wasn't a way to spread this out more to mitigate the luxury tax hit. (Assuming the Mets go over. I don't know the state of their finances.) If you're talking about signing a multi year deal with a pitcher who is over 40, why not make him a Met for life. Sign him through age 48 or something, at much lower AAV. With the assumption that you'll release him once he's no good anymore. (Or does that retroactively mess with luxury tax calculations?)

Nah. The electricity and home-grown level is just too high to pass up for me, subjectively. I honestly think it's a coinflip between these two regarding health/performance.
At one point in time that was second all time.
Dazzy Vance is at 1.875...
Is that true, was there an actual source? Yes, I would be surprised, there's pretty much never been a free agent that picked the Mets over the Yankees when both offered.

That was a parody account that tweeted that
