The Mets seem cursed with future HOF players who go there late in their careers - either injuries like this or suddenly forgetting how to play (Roberto Alomar being the first name that comes to mind but I know there have been others).

It’s not unbelievable, but one of these years it would be super cool to make it to opening day with the team intact.

I think it's fun to watch Mets fans self-immolate.

However, I don't think anyone thought Verlander was going to get through 2023 unbesmirched by the IL was foolish. And getting it out of the way in the first week of the season, with days off upcoming and such, is relatively optimal timing.
