“Best shape of his life.” When left side infielders in their early thirties lose a bit of bat speed, the end can come too fast.

I'm more optimistic than most about him. He's been a good player and then had one bad season, so I side more with the projections.

It's kind of hard to get a read on him as to whether last year was just bad luck and bad health or whether he has become a different player due to age. His Ks were up and BBs were down, which both hurt his overall production. He also had way fewer hard hit balls than he has in the past. I have seen a lot of blame put on shifts, but if you stop hitting the ball hard, it doesn't matter much whether the defense shifts. All of his decreases seem to relate to timing and pitch selection. That could come from bad health, or it could come from become a little slower. I guess we will have to wait to see which it is.

This is kind of a fun mystery. My top guess is Stanton, followed closely by Judge.
