LG Twins capture 1st Korean Series title in 29 years

The wait is over. The LG Twins are the champions of South Korean baseball for the first time in 29 years.

The Twins defeated the KT Wiz 6-2 in Game 5 of the Korean Series on Monday, winning their fourth straight game after dropping the opener of this best-of-seven competition.

This is the Twins’ first title since 1994 and it ends one of the longest title droughts in the history of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), dating to 1982.

The Seoul-based Twins got to celebrate their long-awaited title on home turf at Jamsil Baseball Stadium. All five games of the Korean Series were played before a sellout crowd, including 23,750 fans at Jamsil on this frigid Monday night.

Captain Oh Ji-hwan was voted the MVP of the Korean Series, after leading the Twins with three home runs and eight RBIs. Oh became the first player to homer in three straight games in the same Korean Series.

A good year for getting off the schneid (sp?). The Sens II/Rangers got their first, the Hanshin Tigers their first in forever and now the LG Twins.

Are the fans in LG celebrating, while the fans in KT are lighting cars on fire? (Or maybe the other way round?)

Hey, don't be knocking N Korea. If they had a team, they'd be sound with all the fundamentals. Of course a throwing error or CS is punishable by death, so there is some motivation there to get it right.

Highly recommend a KBO game if you're a baseball fan in South Korea, I saw a game at Jamsil Stadium several years ago and it was a blast. The stadium itself is pretty cookie-cutter, but it was a very enthusiastic crowd and just an all-around good time.

Completely agree. A wonderful experience. Fans were super into it, with coordinated cheers and songs for everything. Plus, instead of concessions we got dudes with backpacks wandering around selling everything from whole dried squid to bottles of soju.
