Can’t they just play on the deck of the Queen Mary?

Hey, that would at least put the Los Angeles Angels in Los Angeles County.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Long Beach.

Yes, I am aware that the “of Anaheim” got removed from their official name.

The maintenance bills on the Queen Mary are already a problem.

I refer to my Strat team as the Los Angeles Angels of Ottawa.

I was in Long Beach last fall and: a) the Queen Mary is terrible and b) I don't really think it's a great place for a stadium, but what do I know?

I'm surprised they would move there with so much drama in the LBC

Gee, I visited the Queen Mary a few years ago. I enjoyed it, actually, and the tour was good. There are some spots that could use a coat of paint, but it didn’t look shabby or anything.

Didn’t eat or stay there, which you apparently can do. They reportedly have a lavish and expensive brunch, for one thing.

Liked the Aquarium of the Pacific as well.

I would not recommend staying at the Queen Mary, but my goodness, that brunch was something else. I wouldn't do it again and I wouldn't call it good, but it was *huge*.

It could be the Los Angeles Angels of Ontario to be even more delightfully confused.

As an Angels fan who grew up in Ontario, California, I second this. I also lived in downtown Long Beach during my high school years, when it was dangerous to go outside after dark (held up at gunpoint twice!).

It's better now, there's a nice big outdoor shopping center nearby with a theater and restaurants and the like, but that area they're talking about is basically a hole in the world. Also, LB is a city of a half-million people that's always been governed like a sleepy one-street cow town. It's hard to see the Angels wanting that spot, and it's hard to see the super-NIMBY LB residents want to give it to them. The location's just a negotiating tool.

Liked the Aquarium of the Pacific as well.

when the New Jersey Aquarium opened in 1992, it turned out that some genius had decided that they should just feature "Jersey fish." which are, well, not exactly brimming with technicolor.

wiki actually gets this one mostly right:

"In its first year of operation, the Aquarium hosted 1.6 million visitors. But trouble arose almost immediately when visitor and critics' reviews turned decidedly negative and scores began to express great disappointment in their grand new museum.

The building's concrete nature was glaringly apparent both inside and out, as bare, grey concrete walls defined almost every public space. The cavernous rotunda, capped by the classic white dome, featured a deafening echo and was poorly lit. None of the exhibits were themed, and many of the tanks seemed to be lined up in neat, square rows. Graphics were almost non-existent, and the building itself tended to feel small. But the death knell came by way of the animals themselves — as a New Jersey–based operation, the original Aquarium displayed only native fishes, normally brown and grey in color, and just about nothing else."

Now I've only been held up once. The guy said he had a gun, but I never saw it. After he'd taken my ten dollars, I asked if he could please leave my wallet. The only thing of "value" in it was my library card. He left it. Probably because I'd said please.

My older son has been held up twice. He was in his early teens, right outside our building, this kid came up to him with a box cutter and said "gimme yer dough." Which my son was happy to do, since he had exactly none. Fortunately, the robber took pity on his poverty and didn't cut him.

The 1st time he was held up was the one above, when he was about 6 weeks old, so he didn't even have any candy.
