Lorenzo Cain Opts Out Of 2020 Season

Brewers center fielder Lorenzo Cain has opted out of the rest of the 2020 season, according to a team press release.  President of baseball operations David Stearns commented on the situation in the release, saying “Lorenzo Cain has informed us that he will not participate for the remainder of the 2020 season.  We fully support Lorenzo’s decision, and will miss his talents on the field and leadership in the clubhouse.”

If the season is still going, I highly doubt Trout returns from paternity leave.

Understandable.

If the Angels are already 10 games out, maybe, but if they’re in the playoff hunt and no Angel tests positive in the interim? We don’t really know whether current cases are due to weaknesses in the MLB Protocol, or from ignoring the guidance in the Protocol, although some of the reporting hints at the latter. I wouldn’t assume that the situation couldn’t improve.

The Angels should just tell him to stay home. They're not winning anything — this week has highlighted how gawdawful their EVERYTHING is — and only thing that could happen to Trout is that he get hurt or sick.

Lots of chatter that Braun will soon follow.

The 2020 MLB "season" is feeling more and more like the 1987 NFL "scab" games. The games count, but they don't feel like they matter.

Agreed. I am not one to assign asterisks to seasons, I planned on viewing this year's WS winner as a legit champ, but now...not so much. It's a ####### shitshow.

I pretty much want this season to fall apart by everyone opting out so that the clubs can't even field teams. Not even primarily opting out of the exposure risk - opting out of the ever-escalating imprisonment protocols.

Not going to happen. If they get far enough down the talent spectrum, I’m opting in, risks be damned. For the pro-rated MLB minimum and chance to play before zero fans in an MLB stadium I’ll bring my 49 year old diabetic ass out there.
