Matt Vasgersian to become lead voice of Angels’ TV broadcasts

Fox Sports West announced on Thursday that Vasgersian will replace Victor Rojas, who left last year to become president of the Triple-A Frisco Roughriders.

Vasgersian will work alongside Mark Gubicza and Jose Mota, who has been promoted from the pre- and post-game shows to form a three-man booth.

Vasgersian will continue in his role with ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and with MLB Network, with Daron Sutton filling in with the Angels when Vasgersian is away.

Although his two other jobs will keep him busy, Vasgersian was eager to add a third. It had been 13 years since he worked for a team, in 2008 finishing a seven-year stint with the Padres that followed a five-year run with the Milwaukee Brewers.

This is actually very easy for me to imagine, as at one point I listened to 20 seasons worth of Angels games announced by Vasgersian. This was in the MLB the show video game where an alternate version of Brandon Wood became a superstar shortstop and hit over 800 homers.

This seems like a weird career arc.

Nice pickup from what I've heard of his game calls.

This seems like a weird career arc.

Rojas applied for the Angels GM position so he obviously desires a front office role. He probably sees this as a good experience to break into an MLB front office.

I'm going to miss Rojas on the broadcasts, but Vasgersian is good. He's probably only going to do half the broadcasts, but they got Daron Sutton to partner with him, which is another good choice.
