Max Scherzer to miss rest of regular season with shoulder muscle strain

Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer will miss the rest of the regular season because of a strained muscle in his shoulder, the team announced Wednesday.

Rangers general manager Chris Young said it was unlikely Scherzer would be able to pitch in the postseason if Texas qualifies.

Scherzer has a strained teres major, a muscle that connects the scapula to the humerus.

Maybe he was more of a Met than we gave him credit for.

As a Jays fan it is a plus to have him not pitch for the Rangers, as a baseball fan it is a damn shame.

I hope he gets another chance at a moment. He's been one of the most iconic postseason players of the past decade.

If Max is done, he's at 214-108, 134 ERA+, 74.9 WAR, three CYs and a ring.

So, he's in, right?

I think he’s a slam dunk with those credentials.

And you forgot the 3367 K's, which puts him 11th on the all time list only 4 behind Maddux for 10th.

He's first ballot, no doubt about it. Unless things go all Clemens or Schilling.....

Doesn't really sound like a career-ending injury to me. Does it to you? I know he's old, but these guys want to play.

He is now constantly referred to as "Future Hall of Famer," which is all the info you need I think. First ballot, upwards of (conservatively) 90%.

Scherzer is a stone cold lock for election, and first-ballot seems very very likely.

not only has he been a great pitcher, he has a narrative of the sort that the writers have always loved. it's a perfect storm - yes, unless he goes all Clemens or Schilling.....
